Could an SAFC do any good for the 8???
Has anyone thought about running a Super Air Flow Converter (SAFC)? Would it help out or would it be a waste of money?
Thanks,
Ryan

Now, if I could just somehow plug my iPod into that :D

Was a bit confused earlier, thinking it invovled "air flow" - what's in a name though?
So, I was under the impression that the RX8 ECU was still very much a grey area.
At the fear of being tossed back into the land of Yahoo by Spin9k, can just adding the device can bring about significant performance gains to engines with "lesser brains" out there?

from what we know, this would yet be useless as you couldn't tune on a dyno (and i would SERIOUSLY reccomend against tuning on the freeway :p), as the ECU buggers up the ignition timing and fuel curves if you try to.

...and man, if i'm depended on for replies and even a (albiet lesser) moderator, why do i get an average of like 0.05 PM's per week?? am i simply the least popular mod, or just the least un-popular??

I just see all of your posts and you seem to have a good knowledge in this discussion...thats why I said that. I was just being funny.
The "system" being the ECU. Just like the VAFC....once you have the settings you can save them and it would change all of your current air fuel settings.

Since dyno tuning is not possible, that only leaves track tuning with the proper equipment to monitor with. I'm not talking 1/4 mile runs either, lol.

The Super-AFC will likely work well in the '8 - it's hard to say if the RX-8's airflow meter is currently supported.
Fine-tuning the fuel curve will likely result in some more power, and it would complement minor upgrades quite well, like intake and exhaust.
Wakeech, why are you so against tuning on the street? Have you ever done it? Get out on the freeway at night and do a bunch of 3rd gear pulls with a buddy monitoring and tuning - perfectly safe and legal. Guess what, dynos are only recently commonly available, as are wideband AF meters - people have tuned cars for a long time with great results.
Also, I wouldn't give up so easily on dynoing the RX-8 - it's just a matter of time before a procedure is found that will allow dynoing the car properly. Where there's a will, there's a way.

i'm also in agreeance with the dynoing issues: of course there's always a way around it... just need to defeat the ECU: not the first time it's had to happen.

legal?? well, that and the not-paying-as-much-attention-to-the-road-while-tuning-yourself-very-late-at-night are the only aspects i'd worry about. i, having never owned a car in "need" of a tune (ie, none) would not know better than, you, so i'll take your word for it.

The Super-AFC will very likely go up to 9500 RPM. Not 100% sure, though - might be worth a dig through the manual. Hell, the AVC-R boost controller I used to have would read up that high - I mis-shifted my TurboII once and had a peak/hold of around 9300 RPM .
