Custom hi flo cat

do you mean just welding a universal one on to the stock piping? I thought the piping was part of making the HP. And the supercat piping is 3", while the stock diameter is probably smaller, so its better for a turbo. Im not sure though. Just my two cents.

generally speaking, you get what you pay for ...a cheap metallic hi-flo cat can be had for $150
a "real" metallic hi-flo cat will cost 5x that amount, plus the piping work .... and flow as well as a catless midpipe

Have you tried taking it to Robert at Cerrtos?
He is a club member. The stock cat is supposed to be warrentied for 10 yrs. / 100,000 miles.
You may have to take athe KN intake off before the mechanics look at it.
Unfortunately you will be missing out on the HP gain from the RP Cat.

yep,
i have one. 3" all the way with a resonator on the back.... works great and the power is the same as the 3" midpipe with borla resonator i had on before...
important.... if you are going to do this... make sure you get a new gasket of a larger size for where the exhaust manafold bolts to the front of the cat...
pm me if you need more info...

RP Supercat question
I am interested in getting a RP Supercat, but, I am concerned about the noise level and I hear there is a fitting issue with the RB Catback that I have. I spoke to a local muffler shop about putting in a resonator. The guy said expect the resonator to reduce the hp gain by half because I would be adding a restriction to the airflow that I am spending so much money opening up. My car gets a lot of attention as it is and I don't want to be a ticket magnet with an overly loud exhaust. How head turningly loud should I expect it to be at full throttle? Thanks for your input.

I have a RP cat/Tanabe combo, and at idle it is near stock. At WOT, it screams, but isn't as loud as I expected. I'm happy with it and I really don't like loud cars.

Some Subaru guy used it for his 95 Subaru rally car:
QUOTE :
"With our Subaru weighing in at close to 2900 pounds and our factory horsepower figures at about 130 at the crank, we decided to work on both ends of the horsepower to weight ratio. We removed the stock exhaust system, which has two catalytic converters, a resonator and a huge muffler and replaced it one that was both lighter and rally-legal. Rally cars are required to retain a functioning catalytic converter (remember, they operate on public roads) so we installed a metal-matrix converter from Supreme Performance This welded up to a 2.25″ exhaust that A&W Muffler fabricated up, including two fittings for our oxygen sensors. The muffling portion of the exhaust was handled by a titanium straight-through muffler that is also made by Supreme Performance. It weighs a scant 4.5 pounds and uses a stainless steel clamp that you can weld hangers too.
The system is relative quiet at idle, but has quite a rumble from the flat-four cylinder engine under larger throttle openings. We’ve seen about a half-second improvement in our 0-60 time, now at about 8.5 seconds for the sprint. "

i'm really interested in getting a local shop to put my full exhaust together. i had them build me a nice custom mandrel bent system on my previous car & was happy w/ the results. i'd like to know more about good quality universal mufflers, cats & resonators that would work well in the high temp environment of our 8's in order to piece my system together. anybody got anything to share... please do! thanks...
