Did some G-tech runs last night
OK. As some may rememeber I had my car flashed a couple days ago and I also got my stage1 back with the updated fuel maps and all that. Since I have a G-tech pro, and as I found out last night, an excellent stretch of road nearby to do 1/4 mile runs, well, I did that for about 45 minutes. Atached to this post are 4 of my runs. The 2 faster ones are with the stage1 on and the 2 slower ones are off. This is just to give everybody an idea of an improvement. I was NOT launching agressively for best time, just trying to be consistent so as to see the car's behavior. Also if you load these into the g-tech software (free dl from their website at www.gtechpro.com) and look at the G-force curves, you'll see what Maurice mentioned before about it being much smoother in delivery.
As you can see from the data I managed to drive pretty consistently and shift OK. I plan on doing some more of these on sunday or monday night, but I thought some might find this interesting. I will be calibrating the g-tech to get an idea on HP as well.
So look for some more data next week if you find this interesting. Enjoy!

Genom, don't you have to drive for a few miles for the ECU to retune/relearn itself after you turn the unit off? i think perhaps that's why your HP and torque through all runs seem so similar...

You are reading it right. Just ignore the 1/4 mile times. What you are reading is the computer grabing the TQ and HP on either 2 or third gear and giving you a plot.

I know prober, thats why I will be doing HP runs afterwards. Testing for HP requieres very different launches with the g-tech, thats why I stated at first this was only to see time differences. ANy other value you pull out of it is suspect as the car weight isnt right, and I was not launching agressively so as to get the highest numbers. I was aiming for consistency to see the differences with it on and off.
Anyway, I'll do some more runs tomorrow night and update.

If you look at the 1/4mile graph posted earlier, it only has data from 7000 to 8500rpms (range too small). Also, if you look at the bottom right corner it's grabbing hp/tq numbers from 2 different gears. Shouldn't compare hp/tq #'s from 2 different gears.
Only thing this shows is that his 1/4mi times improved. I personally don't do 1/4mi times with my gtech pro because I have found it's very hard to get accurate data if the gtech unit vibrates at all. Under hard launches, any wheel hop will mess up the gtech data. Also, there's a dragstrip that I can go to get my 1/4mi times.
Genom, I'm very interested to see what hp/tq numbers you get. Thanks for posting the info.

To update. I met with lourx8 tonight for some more fun. He is running a stock GT I beleive, and is looking for exhaust and stage1. I have exhaust and stage1 (muahahaha). So we had some little comparo's.
First off we did a side by side pull in second gear from 2000RPM. Both times I started to pull away slightly, to be about 3/4 of a car ahead of him.
When we did 1/4 mile runs in my car, with both of us in it, My best time was around 15.11. With both of us in his car, it was right about 15.23. However, when doing the HP runs in the cars with both of us, we got about 154HP. His averaged a little lower, mine stayed right around there, but it was a very minor differance. Like 151 to 153.
Now the solo 1/4 mile runs ended up being a bit different. My best time alone was slightly lower than lou's. However, as the graphs show, it was cause I spun the wheels too much in first. I pulled harder the entire run, but lost it by a very small margin. I also had a bog in 3rd, that I suspect was due to 89 octane gas. Oh well. More practice.
We both, however, had an absolute blast! Here's some screenshots.

I think it's trained up by now. At the time of the first runs I had 130 or so miles.

I am very happy. I didnt like the original maps too much, but this new one is much smoother and feels a lot better. There's at least 20HP there, and very likelymore. For 500 bucks? no problem.

Did you use the gtech pro for these 2nd gear pulls?
You can see the power curve much better than the graph you posted earlier if you do only 2nd gear runs. Your graph's rpm range is from 7000 to 8700rpms.
Below is a graph of my 2nd gear pulls on my stock RX8. The rpm range is from 3500 to 8500rpms.
The red box shows the small range your graph is analyzing.
It would be interesting to see what the power curves are below 5k rpms and also around 6k rpms.
How the manual says to do hp/tq power runs:
-Start from a stop in 1st gear in dragstrip mode and stage
-when gtech displays ready, accelerate smoothly to 4,500rpms
-shift smoothly to 2nd gear and floor it
-let off the gas at 9000rpms
-data collection is done, slow done and save run
The highest speed you'll get to is about 70mph. Some people say 3rd gear hp/tq runs are more accurate, but I'm unable to go that fast on my road (around 90mph).

I do have the HP runs, I just didnt post them since there was no real variation in them. The first side by side pulls we did I didnt have the g-tech setup yet since we only have the 1 unit. When I get home tonight I'll post up a screenie of the HP runs as well.
HP runs in my experience are a pain since the g-tech reports so much lower numbers most of the time. I will work on that next chance I get and try to get some real acurate numbers, but the only way to verify them will be to throw the car on a dyno again and remove the rear wheel speed sensors.
Sadly, this part of it is going to have to wait until a non-crazy weekend, and thats looking a few weeks away. If I manage to get something done sooner I'll post that as well.

If you want to know how much power your putting at the wheels, a dyno is the only way to go.
But, the Gtech is fairly accurate in displaying the hp/tq difference between 2 runs, thus showing you the hp increase by installing the Canzoomer stage 1.

I know. Thats why I said the only way to verify is with a dyno. I understand how the g-tech works and the limitations and how to work around them. It's my driving experience thats still lacking.
