IL Do I have to buy Mazda Spark Plugs?

Its time for me to change my spark plugs, the guys at the dealership say I can only use the OEM Mazda Spark Plugs.
They're $150...
I would much rather buy some NOLOGY spark plugs.
Can I do this or am I stuck with the Mazda ones?
Thanks

The OEM Mazda plugs are still the best plugs you can have stock. Only reason to change is if you go FI and due to your specific kit, you need a colder plug.

But don't get raped by a dealer. Many of our vendors here can get OEM parts for way way less.

For example, plugs are $80 for all 4 shipped from BHR (http://blackhaloracing.com/products-...gine/ignition/)

Buy the NGK that your dealer sells. You can find them cheap if you do a little research. Try ebay or some venders here. I have never seen the Nology plugs but have read poor reviews about their wires.

If you are serious about your car, you will never buy required components from ebay. Horror stories are common when ever anyone does that. Our vendors offer prices basically as cheap as you can get it honestly, so please use them.

I honestly wouldn't buy anything for the 8 from ebay except for maybe interior trim pieces or something completely cosmetic like that

I bought the new "hot start " plugs released by Mazda and NGK a year ago from an ebay seller and never had any problem with them. Don't hate on ebay there are some reputable sellers still out there. You here your horror stories about venders here too. I wouldn't recommend buing a turbo kit, performance chip, etc. on ebay.

True. I'm not saying that it is impossible to find legitimate parts for good prices on ebay, but they aren't common, the scams, frauds, and horrible knock-offs are.

If the OP doesn't have the presence of mind to check with vendors here and to consider accepting dealer prices, he likely wouldn't know how to pick out those legitimate parts.

People buying plugs on ebay before have ended up with all trailing or all leading, or completely wrong plugs, etc... Easy way to lose an engine and kiss your warranty good-by.

You won't save much more than just by buying from the vendors here. Is the tiny extra savings worth the extra risk? I don't think so in my opinion. Yours may vary.

Our vendors here, even the poorer ones, all have reputation levels and people that can vouch for specific parts. Something that is infinitely more valuable than "A+++++++++++ FAST SHIPPER!!!!!!!!!" x 41,997.

I agree with this. I do my research before any big purchase I make and I consider any purchase for my cars to be a big purchase.

We have NGK plugs available for $80 shipped.

Do NOT buy NOLOGY anything. Their wires and plugs are gimmicks and will not work properly on the RX8.

Don't buy anything off ebay unless you know exactly what you are getting and even then you're taking a risk.

I just wanted to state this is false. I sell OEM spark plug sets from the dealership every couple of months on ebay for around $70-75 shipped. Depending on when you look you can find good deals.

I will quote myself, as that quote was challenged once before...

No offense against you intended, but assuming you move ~5 plug sets a month as a high average (based on your comment), you simply are not in the majority of sellers out there, and someone that isn't really searching or checking things out could easily end up with plugs from someone that doesn't know what they are talking about, and lose an engine in the process.

Out of the 100 dogs in the pen, 99 are rabid and will bite you, 1 is domesticated and friendly. Is it accurate to say that you are safe to walk through the pen because there is 1 domesticated dog in there?

That is all I am saying. You, as a knowledgeable and an honest seller, are in the minority when it comes to critical engine parts and knowing what you are selling.

Your right, There is alot of crap going out there that are rx8 spark plugs lol. I see that when I sell them on ebay and try to set the lowest price of oem plugs.
And I wish I moved that much a month :P I normally only get them about what seems twice a year, last time I had gotten about 8 sets and had one guy buy them all at once.

RIWWP, your rabid dog scenario isn't really fair. One dog in 99 is not rabid, so that makes 1% of the dogs good in your scenario. Are you implying that only 1% of the non-traditional sellers are good, non-rabid, non-biters who will lick instead of bite? Ha ha. This is going nowhere fast, huh. Bottom line as I see it: do your research before you buy. Ebay has a higher percentage of "bad dogs" than traditional outlets, but also has a good number of trustworthy folks, too.
