i'm sorry i didn't respond and close this yesterday, but this just frustrates me too much.
maybe something should be explained in very plain terms, as in for a certain amount of power making potential, you can only gain margin up to the point where you reach 100% efficiency... low restriction intakes, performance exhausts are the most popular ancillary thingy jingies that try to do this, making power on the margins. this is ignoring the inherent design differences between your normal tube and cone aftermarket intake design and the resonantly tuned system the RX-8 comes with, you can read about that in lots of places.
well, when you have a system as refined as it is with the RX-8, there is some truth to what is said like it's already so close to potential that there's not more to gain, but here's the kicker: there is a lot you can do to increase the potential power of the motor, and then yes the stock intake system and exhaust system may not do what you'd hope them to.
so, stop wasting your money on bs (unless you really do think that the way your car sounds, or the design of the exhaust tip really is worth ~$1000) and learn the shortcomings that exist in this car, and help the motor out. i can tell you right now that the engine tuning itself is a detriment to both power and fuel economy as it is right now, so that's a good place to start. stop worrying about bullshit and brand names and learn about your car if you really want to make it faster.

This is why I'm waiting for an intake that is similar to the stock airbox. Someone I know is trying to design one, but needs an RX-8 for some dimensions. *points at self*
