Dyno Tuning the Interceptor NA and RP Highflow Cat - Any Advice?

Firday morning I'm driving over to Rotary Performance in Dallas to get my 8 and its interceptor-X NA dyno tuned and also to install the HF cat.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or words of wisdom who have had this done before as far as time savers, issues incountered, things they wish they had noticed at the begining etc....

I've never had a car dyno tuned so this should be a good experience, I hope to learn alot. The sad part is I'm getting the car tuned, I'm going to drive it around for a few hours, then leave it at the airport when I fly back to Houston that evening.

I am going to premix to be on the safe side, any other thoughts. I will of course post the dyno charts for everyones enjoyment.

yeah, i have a question, Do you have the Ceptor X already installed on your car, with just the basic tune? if so, how much of power gain did you feel with just the base map? good luck

Make sure that the dyno tuner has a reliable AFR meter. It's obviously important in the overall process of tuning and will make the process go a lot smoother.

This should be something that is assumed, but I went to a dyno tuner and had major issues with the AFR.

I have been tuning my car for the past few months now and I would shoot for 13.0 accross the board. We tried taking it up to 13.5 and higher, but the car runs so much stronger with a 13.0 afr.

To me though the most time consuming part is street tuning. I have finally obtained a tune that I can make minor changes on that wont completely ruin the drivability of the car. All throttle positions/load put against the car is running perfectly, the only issue that I am having right now is a rich afr condition after I get off of the gas from WOT...

As far as tuning the car though.. Make sure that the secondary injectors open at 5 hg, past 4,000 and is spraying at least 70%. This is a common setup on most Int-x's and I have found the best results with this. You may also need to change the pump functions to put in more fuel so that the transition between light throttle and heavy is smooth.

Again.. Shoot for 13.0.. You will not regret it and will save time in the future.

Thats my opinion.

Pre-mixing may change the way your fuel burns. If you tune with pre-mixed fuel and stop pre-mixing later your tune won't behave the same. Someone who knows this for sure please chime in. I don't want you to waste your time if you don't have to!

The amount of premix in the tank is so small compared to the amount of gasoline that it isn't going to change anything as far as burning is concerned.

here is a question -- this premix everyone seems to be running in their tank... what would be any benefits vs drawbacks?

Benefits is , your engine will run smoother, idles better. less noise, longer engine life(this depends on how hard you're)

drawbacks, well. sometimes you might "forget to add", pain in the *** to "remember to stock the premix", and your wallet.

i got to tell you the premix thing is damn easy.... the 2 sroke oil you get by the qt...

you stick it in the cubby hole in the trunk between the seats... you go out and buy 5 oz dixie cups.. i think they were 1.50 for 90 of them...

you get to the gas station... put 4 oz into your dixie cup... dump it in. ditch the dirty *** cup.

put the gas in.

done..

for me it is a must as it fixes a problem.... and if i miss a tank, i dont think i would worry.... in time i am going to back it down to 3 oz..

beers

To add to nycgps the soot on my exhaust tips is practically gone since I started to used premix three tanks ago. To make it easy I got a couple bottles of Lucas upper cylinder cleaner just because I liked the 6 oz bottle it came in. After using it in my 11-year-old F-150 beater I marked the bottle and can keep them in the cubby in-between the seats.
