If a new tunable ecu can be installed on the car, you will get a benefit from tuning it. Just understand that it won't be on the level of the standard engine. Doing the same mods to the low power engine is still going to yield benefits. Many here would tend to disagree though saying it is a waste of time. Look at it as a frame of reference. From the high power owners standpoint, you will never be as quick as them (even though you have more power to almost 7000 rpm!) unless you do something pretty damn special. However from the standpoint of an LS1 V8 owner, the high power RX-8 guys shouldn't waste their time since the car will never be as fast without some serious work. See the correlation? No one ever supports the lower guy. Support only goes up hill. I say if you want a little more power from your car, go for it. You already understand that the benefit is limited compared to the other engine. A gain is a gain though and if it makes you happy, go for it! Dollar wise gains are just more expensive per horsepower.
