I had one on my RX-7 for a matter of minutes. That was long enough.

Would be good for making Harley riders embarassed about their exhaust's wimpiness, but that's about it.

all im really interested in is the sound not so much gain in performance. I had it on my last car and loved the sound. Wanted an electric one though so i dont have to go under the car to open and close it.

I race rotaries..and an uncorked open exhaust rotary wont pass a 106db sound rule at Thunderhill..its seriously wayyyyyy too loud. And not in a "Wow..that sounds fast.." manner either.

No muff or cat on a full exhaust is about 103, shortcut it and it gets bad fast.

An unmuffled rotary is probably 103 db at idle. People underestimate how loud a rotary really is. An unmuffled V8 is downright quiet compared to an unmuffled rotary. No I am not kidding!

Wink Last?

"on my last car...."

If it was a V8, you may have got a nice grumble out of it, but like RG said - on a rotary it's not a pleasant sound.

Like a flock of geese being strangled, or a PA microphone with a wasp trapped inside - you get my drift? Don't even consider one till you break the flange open at the header/cat joint, and boot around with it open.

It's a sure fire cop-attractor, I left town with it open and had to sneak back into town by a different route, I was positive someone along the way would have called the cops!

I heard my friends 2nd gen with nothing but the exhaust manifold. Holy crap. Free revving an unmuffled rotary ought to be illegal. It actually hurt, and even when I got my hands over my ears, it was the loudest thing I've ever heard in my life. What it sounds like doesn't even matter, you drive down the street in something like that and you might get sued .

Its an interesting concept, one I'd like to hear for myself one day but not on a regular basis. Just something to think about:

Environmental Noise
Weakest sound heard 0dB
Normal conversation (3-5') 60-70dB
Telephone dial tone 80dB
City Traffic (inside car) 85dB
Train whistle at 500' 90dB
Subway train at 200' 95dB
Level at which sustained exposure may result in hearing loss 90 - 95dB
Power mower 107dB
Power saw 110dB

If he had the stock exhaust manifold, understand that it actually is a decently effective muffler! You should hear open headers!
