As we all Know the Rx-8 will be Electronically Limited to 148MPH, though the picture attached seems to be contrary, can anyone explain and how difficult it is to remove the electronic limiter or does the whole circuit board have to be changed?

can't be its at languna, the sidemarkers are orange not clear, and it LHD.

EDIT: And if he were in 5 or 6 at 7250rpms, which he was after reviewing the viedo, then he should be going 238 Kmh

trust me, that's KPH... there's no way in hell that the RX-8, with only 250 hp could ever get up to 174mph in the first place, let alone the (relitively short) front straight at Laguna Seca... for reference, 174kph is about 115mph: there is no way in hell that it was going 174 mph...

secondly, i'd just like to point out that because it's a digital display, it wouldn't be very difficult to ask the ECU to display the velocity in either measurement through some kind of weird startup procedure.

also, notice how the car's in 4th (5th would be toward the front of the vehicle, and 6th would hopefully not be gated that closely to the centre of the selector) at about 7500 rpm... that's definitely not in range for 174mph...

It would have to be running on pure rocket fuel (and then some) to get up to 174mph. That Time-Attack video is for the Japanese market so it's obviously Kmh. Here's the instruments showing the indicator for mph and kmh. It can be switched by the software.

That should be in km/h. It looks like the pic is taken from Best Motoring Japan (2003 3rd Edition) video, which is about the RX-8, and the guy driving is a Japanese racer (may be that’s why he has the speed displayed in km/h). Had my friend to get me that video, can't wait to watch it.
Besides, I remember I read somewhere earlier about you can switch the display between mi/h and km/h, so ppl know how fast they are going after they crossed the border.

It's taken from the 'Time-Attack Laguna Seca' video.

Should be able to switch between mph and kmh on your own, and not thru the software.

Ok now what we got that all cleared up, back to Polak's actual question:

can anyone explain and how difficult it is to remove the electronic limiter or does the whole circuit board have to be changed?
This should just require a new chip for a few $hundred. Not difficult at all...

Uhhmm, when you select the km/h or mph option via the computer is it hamsters that do the work or some kind of binary code?

but then to get past the drag threshold you're gonna have to up the HP of your car by a significant amout: enter porting or FI... more than a couple of hundred bucks (unless you're gonna use NOx)

I do over 125 on a weekly basis GROW SOME *****!, j/k. I will not condone it for anybody else because I don't know your ability or locations available to open your car up a little. But when ya have a chance I can't resist. The fastest I've done on the road was 176 on a streetbike but I've also had my last "car" to 160 then the road got a little dippy and I backed out (But it was fun while it lasted).

im in southern california there is a lot of cops, a lot of traffic, a lot of crappy roads, and a lot of people getting killed everyday from traffic collisions. maybe u should grow some brains... cuz doing 176 on a bike will turn u into goo if u hit a twig
