Which exhaust?

Alright boys im in the market for a new exhaust for my 8. Im kinda stuck between Borla and the HKS legacy. The HKS is about $300 more and was wondering if anyone thinks its actually that much better?? Any thoughts?...

Basically, the two exhausts will have the same HP gain (1-2 hp, if any). HKS and Borla are both reputable companies. You basically have to decide on the looks and/or the sound. Use the SEARCH button to look for some pictures and sound clips. If you want HP, look into the TurboXS or a catless/highflow cat setup. Good luck and use SEARCH to avoid being flamed :D.

i was stuck in the same position you were. if you are looking for a more loud exhaust...go w/ Borla. But if you're looking for more of a slightly softer sound than Borla, but a louder sound than Racing Beat, then HKS is your exhaust. I love every minute of my exhaust. I've gotten so many compliments from people on the streets saying this exhaust sounds clean, especially with the "Pop" at 5.5kish. So if you can...save the extra 300 for the quality and sound you're looking for. I'm very happy with the decision i made.

but of course unreal is correct. If you want the HP go the Turboxs route.

Get what you want, whatever you pick won't get you much gain.
what you are buying is essentially sound and look. NOT horsepower.

And weight savings, for some of the aftermarket exhausts at least.

How come no one ever thinks about weight? Lower weight = faster acceleration, it's not all about HP. If it gains you 1hp and adds 5 lbs, you come out even. If it gains you 1hp and loses 10+ lbs, you come out even better.

Do you really think you will notice a significant gain from losing 10lbs?

If that's how you think, you'll never see a significant gain in almost anything.

When it comes to weight reduction, every pound counts. Lose 10 lbs in one thing, 5 in another, 10 in another, 20 somewhere else... and so on. It all adds up. I'm doing my exhaust install now, and after I add what was lost in the midpipe/catback to what I've already shaved off I'll be up around 50 lbs or so. And that's still with the heavy stock rims/tires.

How many decent aftermarket exhaust out there is heavier than stock exhaust?
Of course you will save some weight if you lose the heavy A$$ cat and put a testpipe in there. If you have the enough money to put titanium, then you will save even more. Your previous post was directed to saving weight in exhaust, NOT as a whole system. So how much ACTUAL power gain will you FEEL from gaining 1hp and losing 10lbs? NONE.

Here is a much better vid of the HKS, the music sucks, but they turn it down during the revs...

EDIT: anyone know the cheapest place to get the HKS?

I went with RacingBeat. I think the exhaust sounds nice at idle and if you are crusing around town at slower speeds it dosen't have that "ricer" sound that some of the other exhausts have. But when you dig into the throttle, the RB exhaust kicks in with a nice aggressive sound. It's more tolerable on longer trips as well. Of course, racing beat has a alternate exhaust system out now that's supposed to be louder and have more of a racing look.

My first post was directed at the catback only, yes. My SECOND post was saying that EVERY POUND COUNTS when you are losing weight. You will lose X pounds in the catback, then later X pounds in the midpipe if you get one, then X pounds in wheels. OVER TIME it all adds up. I wasn't saying to do a full exhaust now, how did you get that from my post?

And for your information, Racing Beat exhaust is heavier than stock for sure, and I think, but don't know 100% so don't quote me, the HKS is also. And I know a fair amount are almost the same or negligibly different.

Yeah the single exhuast is supposed to be louder than the dual config. Horsepower is the same.

I was just in the same position you are in now, drawn between the borla and the HKS. Dude, go with the HKS. The looks of it are simply awesome, its a very smooth look and sticks out through the exhaust shrouds perfectly. It pops in between every hard shift, and it sounds beautiful. I got mine from hopupracing.com, when i got mine it was $999 including shipping, they upped the price $50 but shipping is still free. Very worth it in my opinion.

i have a borla on my 8 and i love the sound! its not that loud while cruising but when you hit the gas, youll love it! it will add a nice deep tone on your 8. i think you should go with the borla instead cause for $300 you can buy like an intake, midpipe or something...well its really up to you cause this is just my opinion. good luck!!

I heard both borla and hks, I have to say hks is probably a better choice if you're not looking for something overly loud but at the same time noticeable. Personally I like the sound of the hks exhaust better it looks a lot better too from the bottom if that counts lol.

Thanks to all for your inputs. And to those who were telling me to search, i have been for the past week or so. I know pretty much all about each exhaust, i was just trying to get other peoples personal opinions. The main reason is for sound, with looks as a distant second. Im leaning toward the Borla now since im a cheapie and will save $300, but still listening to others to sway me back the other way.

I would suggest listening to the racing beat exhaust as well. It's only $650 bones. If you want to drive up to Akron, OH area, you can listen to mine. I don't think sound clips on the computer does any exhaust justice.
