Exhaust (Mazdaspeed, Borla, RacingBeat)

I know they've all been discussed to death, but trying to rummage around through multiple threads in an attempt to compare the 3 doesn't seem to be the best way of going about it. (reading opinions on each individual exhaust, is different from hearing opinions from people who may have heard/seen more than just one of them)

I'm finally in the market for an aftermarket cat-back, i've basically narrowed it down to the 3 of which I find the most aesthetically pleasing (rolled tips) as well as what I find to be pretty attractive sounding from clips i've heard on Youtube (not a great representation of them in real-life in a lot of cases i'm afraid)

- Mazdaspeed Dual-Canister Sport Exhaust
- Borla
- Racing Beat

I think the Mazdaspeed is at the top of the list for me right now, just for the fact that I love the way the tips are embossed with the logo on the side. That and it would match up with my Mazdaspeed CAI. It's supposedly quite tame and quiet, which MIGHT be a good thing, but unsure about how I stand on that right now... It's also likely to be the easiest to get my hands on as well I would assume.

I'll also be replacing my cat with a mid-pipe of some sort, and the ricer in me wants to know if all 3 exhausts are capable of shooting flames (I'm assuming they are, since i've seen claims of people getting them while completely stock)

Long story short, looking to see which exhaust you feel sounds the best out of these 3, or your own particular reason for buying yours if you own any of the 3.

I have the MS exhaust along with the MS intake. It sounds awesome! Pretty quiet unless you get on it.

I recently got a RP midpipe and it is pretty loud. It is pretty deep and louder but it is still manageable as long as you don't push it too much. But I enjoy this combo a lot now...sounds very aggressive.

I have the Borla and it is like sex. aka Amazing. It isnt to loud but it has a really nice rumble to it and it is deeper than the mazdaspeed.

borla was on my list of things to get for my ride, but ended up going with the AP.
I love the sound of the borla.. heard it in person and it just sounds so deep and aggressive. mazdaspeed is probably the quietest of the three, and it's made by the people that made the car so you can't go wrong with that one.. hahah

borla definitely sounds deeper imo. 'better' is subjective. i'd say borla is louder as well

i believe the most you'll get out of an exhaust is like 10 hp.. IF that. so your best bet is to go with the one that you think sounds best. I think the AP adds the most hp, but i have yet to dyno my car.. haha

cat back.. really, not enough for you to ask this silly question again..

midpipe you can ask.. but not a lot..

and really..

the only three ehausts that sound remotely deep are..

racing beat, borla, and hymee..

and i think borla has the edge, but racing beat is a bit quieter..

if that doesnt help. you really need to get out there and listen to them..

that is the only way you will know.

btw,

this was kind and gentle.. next time not so much..

beers

I've owned all three of them and I am most happy with the Racing Beat. I first had a Borla and after about 8K miles, the mufflers were shot. I then bought a Mazdaspeed which the welds came apart after a few thousand miles. I got another Mazdaspeed under warranty and the same thing happened while it was still under warranty. Since I didn't want the same POS, the dealer gave me my money back and I bought the Racing Beat. No problems ever since.

When I purchased a cat back I had narrowed it to Mazdaspeed and Borla as well. I ultimately went with the Borla and have not been disappointed. the sound is great.

Unfortunately, I bought it used so the warranty didn't cover me. The deadening material broke up and was coming out of the tips and also rattling around in the muffler.

Thanks to everyone so far who have voiced their opinions, experiences and preferences! Although it really didn't make this much easier for me :D

From what I gather though, Borla appears to be the deepest sounding of the 3 and Mazdaspeed seems to be the quietest?

I AM looking for the deepest sounding of the 3 and one that will hold up for quite some time. (Borla seems to be the one to go with, where everyone seems to think it is the deepest and Swoope mentioned the warranty on it)

I'm getting fairly excited for spring now although it's still a little ways away. I absolutly LOVED the fact that my car is near silent until I punch it with the CAI, but I think it's time to finally be able to hear the beatiful sound of the Rotary in full force this spring

ALSO i'm looking for the best place to purchase the Borla/RB systems (AKA lowest price and/or easiest to deal with...) I'll be checking with some of the local shops to see if they can order it as well then most likely purchase from whoever gives me the best deal lol...3

What's the best pricing you have seen on these exhausts?

They have a lot of products there and they are nice people to deal with. that maybe the best place to buy a lot of products.

Their prices are nice, along with rx7store.

I wish I had of been in the market for an exhaust back when the US/CAD Dollar's were on par... (like when I bought my rims, etc...)

$804.95 USD quickly turns into $990.59 CAD for the Borla and a pair of gaskets... Coming across the border they add the tax which comes to around $1,119... All this BEFORE shipping cost...
