Exhaust way too loud!!

Asking anyone with experience in the matter how to qiet my exhuast down without going back to stock...

My rx8 was turbo. Too make a long story short my motor blew rebuilt my motor re-installed turbo turbo blew and now is na. I have intake, headers, racepipe, and catback. I kno thats why its so loud (ear piecering drone ftl!!!) but it was ok before i turboed it some years ago but i didnt have headers back then. Seems the headers make it super loud. I have the stock headers and midpipe with the cat coming apart. If i just swap the racepipe for the stock midpipe with gutted cat will that quit it down considerbly? If not i was thinking put the stock header back on and stock midpipe. Will i lose power gutted cat stock midpipe vs. racepipe? I have a agency power exhaust which is one of the louder ones for sure. Any info on the subject is appreciated, thanks..

Solution (or at least as close to one as you'll find) = BHR resonator.

A gutted stock cat will be quieter than an un-resonated midpipe. You likely won't have as high of gains as a straight pipe (argued in many other threads) but it will be better than a bad stock cat. If you don't mind spending the money, BHR is the way to go.

FWIW, i run a gutted stock cat an HKS hi-power and don't find it too loud or with too much drone.
HiFlite heard it on the way to DGRR.

The agency power pipe has 2 resonators but there tiny so a lil bit quieter with the stock gutted cat likely not enough difference? mabe ill just switch to stock header and leave the racepipe in

Should make a difference but will still be loud - that would be the first thing to try . Easy and cheap .

A gutted stock cat is tons quieter than the AP pipe. I've had both with my HKS.

The cat is the big difference maker on our car. It sucks a lot of power and gas milage in my experience but it makes a lot of difference in sound levels.

Yep, sounds nice from the outside anyway. The stock cat includes not just the cat body, but a resonator which is the key. A non-resonated midpipe will overwhelm even the stock muffler.

I bought inserts for in mine since certain towns they like to pull you over. Think they are only a few bucks. Makes one hell of a difference.

installed in your midpipe, it's a start anyway and probably better than a gutted OE cat pipe. Both a high flow cat converter and a resonator would be better though

Quite correct, which is why my car has exactly that. A Davesport or equivalent metallic substrate cat is ~$100, keeps your CEL off, is vastly lighter, and probably flows much better than stock. If the stock cat is working, I'd advise strongly against gutting it! New replacements cost ~$1200. Alternatively, since working used ones are in great demand from DD people in strict emission standard states, sell your stock one toward financing a BHR midpipe cat/resonator.

2 poor resonators in the agency power pipe quiets the exhaust down as much as the BHR's single resonator, but the agency power resonators don't remove the drone of cruising, the BHR resonator does. It also doesn't rasp, and allows you to enjoy the catback you purchased.

if you already own a racepipe/midpipe just buy the BHR resonator by itself and get it welded in.

here was my solution to my loud exhaust

i had stock cat, hks single exit exhaust and that was too loud. highway cruising i believe i put the stock headunit to low/mid teens to overcome drone.

i modified and installed an apexi active tail silencer and i am very happy with it. i now can cruise with the radio set at 6-8. no drone, no drama. i will admit that actual tone quality suffered since the silencer makes it a bit brash in sound.. almost like a less attractive turbo spooling up.
