fabricating a turbo kit

I was wondering if someone had the equipment and know how, how hard would it be to copy another turbo kit? And how well do you think it would come out say you were to copy like a mazsport kit? Saying this b/c i may have a kit made for me but im kinda in limbo about it right now.

Always depends on the skill of the fabricator....

Not really fair to the designers if you copy their kits though.

A good fabricator should be able to make their own without copying anything

I realize that. but this is my doings by having a kit copied b/c i like the kit and it wouldnt take as long for the fabricator since he already has seen the kit i want. im trading my bike for a complete turbo kit w/ inceptor and everything. but b4 i do this i wanted to see what you guys thought. My bike is worth 5500. if the person is good it can be done then? and be a quality kit? would any of you do something like that if you had the chance or would you say sell my bike and buy a used kit or esmeril or somthing. i need some mental help here lol

oh and it wouldnt be an exact copy b/c there is some things that would be changed but the main design is from another kit

I would think that it will be more expensive to copy a kit...unless you have one in hand to copy......otherwise you are starting from scratch and will have to fit everything

With that kind of money...but a Greddy kit and upgrade it..should be enough cash to make that almost work

I really think you can't go wrong buying a used Grddey kit then upgrading that to what you want .....

If you sell your bike for cash..you will know what you're getting for it up front......

much less potential to get pissed off too

After its all said and done, unless your doing the welding, machining, and fabricating yourself you will end up spending just around as much as a brand new out of the box greddy kit or used ptp or sfr kit.....Go ahead, Ask Me How I Know This!!!

Will have a thread up soon...

I was going to make a similar point, Derek. We vendors are not geniuses in designing the stuff we do.... it's that we can keep costs reasonable (sometimes) because we build in quantity. Therefore, the cost to make a one-off kit, even when copied, is usually somewhat prohibitive.

From what I understand the hardest part of doing your own turbo kit is the exhaust manifold. To get a quality fabricator to do an exhuast manifold will be very expensive. Good welders/fabricators are very expensive to hire.

Exhaust manifolds can be bought from an assortment of vendors.

Although one of the best exhaust manifolds for the RX-8 comes with the greddy kit.

Although that is really the only piece worth having in the Greddy kit.
