With regard to the originally posted topic, are there particular aero mods that are particularly helpful for maximising top speed? Particularly, reduction or at least minimising of drag and creating a decent low pressure area near the exhaust outlets without excessive drag would seem to be the best option. Are any rear diffusers wind-tunnel tested?

i'm thinking i recall reading here that the euro spec cars' rear lip spoiler decreases drag coefficient by some minute amount.

yep.

it was needed to pass some euro standard. i cant imagine it made such a large difference.

You will need to delete your A/C and upgrade ignition

Oh and don't forget you need all synthetic fluids (diff, gearbox) and dyno on a dynojet on a cold day (dynapack is even more better!)

Does the euro rear lip spoiler have the same mounting hole positions as the Standard US rear wing? If nothing else, it might not screw up the automatic dimming of the rear view mirror like the Standard US rear wing does, and a small reduction in drag coefficient might just sweeten the deal.

I also believe that FI is the only way to make decent power, but when you look at the amount of people that have blown their motors and have to do a rebuild out of pocket I don't know if it's worth. Once the warranty is up if you blow your motor then who cares because you have to fix it out of pocket anyway.

WIth under 1000 dollars, I have 190 whp. No offense but an extra 20-30 horsepower isnt worth the money. at all.

At that point, it would be more cost efficient to do nitrous, or boost.

Thats all Im saying I think nitrous is the best route for the rx8 if you want cheap horsepower, as Im sure you know

Nitrous running costs add up depending on how heavy your foot is and how often you need your "fix".

True, but you play you pay right?

At least you would have 230-240 whp instead of 210-220 and it would still be cheaper, at least initially. (May cost more after a year or two of constantly refilling the bottle )

So Charles, you are doing the 65-shot right now? With your NA dyno at 213, I figure when spraying you're putting down close to 270? Hot damn!

270whp on nitrous, 1/6 the cost (even then debatable) of an equivalent forced induction setup.

What do you have on your car to dyno at 213 N/A ?(I must of missed that thread )

270whp with nitrous is damn impressive, I would be more than satisfied with that

I think anything between 250 and 300rwp is decent. I'm a firm believer in FI but the prices of RX8 turbo and supercharger kits plus the possibility of a engine rebuild is just to much. I understand that you have to pay to play but I think alot of the kits are way over priced (anything in the 5-8k range). Some people say the prices are high because the RX8 is a niche car but you can get a turbo kit for other unpopular cars for half the price with brand name parts. My daily driver is a turbo 95 accord with a slush box and the turbo kit only cost $2500. The kit came with a Turbonetics turbo, Blitz blowoff valve, Spearco intercooler, and engine management . I love my RX8 but I think some aftermarket part suppliers are just raping people.

Yes, and I have 198.6 hp before mazsport coil, flywheel and Access Port.

We got over 20 ponies on a Mustang dyno tune so I believe I'm at 222 rwp now

I also believe that Nitrous is prob the most cost effective HP booster(in the start not counting any engine rebuilds etc etc) however ur nitrous is only there when u "hit" it so it's not going to b constantly say 270 HP you still have ur 220 all the time until u spray(of course unless u just spray all the time you are moving but that's where ur costs go sky high because of putting anew engine in everyday)

However when u go turbo or s/c that power is there all the time(when into the boost on Turbo) but it's anytime u want it there is nothing to "add" inito the mixture to gain power it's there if u want it

Put your money where your mouth is and open a shop of your own. Then you'll see why the RX-8 turbo kits are so "expensive". The market is much smaller but the development costs are the same.
Wow, no need to get defensive, in my statement I said most parts suppliers not all. I was actually going to order some parts from you. I understand that development cost are high but when parts have been out for 4yrs why haven't the prices fallen, most prices have increased? I enjoy my car even if it's not fast, if I what all out speed I can always purchase something else or just turn up the boost on the accord it already spanks the RX8 anyway. No hard feelings.

There are a couple of answers to this. For starters, the entire import car scene is being crushed by the economy right now. The car values are going down, and fewer people can afford to make expensive modifications so the vendors raise prices to compensate and keep their doors open. Add to this the fact that the RX-8 is a very "niche" car anyway, with much less market appeal than a car like the 350Z which has lots of bolt-on options because of the larger base of customers. So in the end you will always have less vendor options and have to pay more money to get quality parts for the car, even before the economic meltdown.

This does suck, but we are fortunate that there are a handful of solid vendors making genuinely good parts for the RX-8 as opposed to the "me too!" vendors who throw out crappy systems to get a few extra bucks from the RX-8 community. We have to treat the good vendors right because most of the time their R&D costs equal or exceed the profit they make from the parts to begin with.
