thats the reason I dont use the KN filters, the oil can (although rare, unless you put to much oil on it or it gets really wet) clog the hot wire in the MAF.
There is the super blue and super green filter, similar idea to KN, cloth, reusable.....im not sure if they have to be oiled or not. Last is the fram air hog, although I try to stay away from fram stuff in general.
I dont see how the oil would make that big of a difference as long as the filter element is in tack and good. it might not get all the super small dirt, but thats ok (IMO) really i just have a filter to keep the big stuff out, leaves, dirt, ect. a little dust I dont worry about.
I have run open turbo and open ITB on my miata, and with just some metal screen to keep big stuff out it was no problem. the oil did get dirty a little faster, but I just changed my service interval accordingly.

bs, it's almost impossible to get oil on the actual MAF sensor, the piece most people see and mistake for the MAF sensor is the temperature bulb, the actual MAF sensor is way up inside the the MAF assembly that bolts onto the intake tube

Another thing you can do is remove and clean the MAF every couple months or so like I do. All you need is rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip (from what I hear) or the product I use to just spray it with, it is called CRC Electrical Cleaner, only costs like $2 at Advance Autoparts, it is alcohol based and you just spray the sensor elements (for about 5 seconds or so, don't have to drench it) and reinsert it into the tube. Very easy, keeps it clean and "sensing" properly. If the sensor is dirty you will see the sensor elements go from a dull color to a bright silver color.
And yes the oil from the filter can get on the actual air sensors up in the MAF unit itself, air has to travel over those sensors and if the oil from the filter is in the air is has no choice but to go up in there as well as flow over the temp sensor.

if you want a different filter that you don;t have to oil get either the apexi or the AEM filter both stay dry and are permanent sadly noone on here uses ITG filters those things are amazing they flow incredibly though you must oil they are just amazing

wow really i had it on my focus and it blew the AEM out of the water and this intake was just a heat sheild with a filter it was a pretty impressive difference on the butt dyno but who knows i've heard lots o problems with em if you over oil
