Final Drive Gear

So I am going to drop the '09 4.777 final gear into my car. However this will be the first time ever tearing down a gearbox. I am reluctant to take anything to a shop.

I bolted on my first intake and exhaust my trial and error, same with wiring my first radio, teardown and build my first Mazda 4 piston engine, and install of my first turbo kit.

So why stop now, I have to learn this sometime.

What am I looking at for most likely issues, I know about the crush washer, figure i might screw that up once or twice. Plus getting the extra bearings and replacing those based off the manual.

Any tips, advice, possible hangups, or bets on how many times this will take me to get right?

isn't that a function of the pinion shim? I have read a bunch of threads on what to buy, where to buy, and effects but no actual install threads.
