FINALLY installed my BHR Yukon Coils
I got my coils in *cough* December of 2008 and put off installing them until today. I've known for a while that my stock coils were shot... I flooded a couple weeks back and knew that I'd put it off long enough.
Install
Took about an hour... really wasn't that big of a deal. There may have been some modifications to the mount (I was one of the very first recipients) since I got mine so I'm not sure how much of this still applies.
- Intake box and acccordian tube were removed... I don't know how you guys can do it with them in. I've got small(ish) arms and hands and there was no way I could've done the install with them in. With that said, I'm not a professional mechanic either and don't do this shiat every day of the week.
- Motor Lift hinge must be removed. My instructions (again first batch) said it was optional but there was no optional in my mind. Coil #2 rubbed up against big time and leaving there had disaster written all over it -- so I yanked it... put the bolts back in to plug up the coolant leak (I lost maybe an ounce of coolant) and that was that.
- The brackets holding the big wire harness that runs underneath the coils needs a little bit of TLC. If you push down on them they'll bend down giving you plenty of wiggle room.
- The bracket that holds the air conditioning line (can't remember the details low/hi or whatever) towards the top of the firewall drivers side was removed. This made it a smidge easier for me to stick my hand and arm down into the bay to make sure my new cables were attached properly. It also served as a good mounting point for the ground wire from the kit.

Anyone want some stock coils and wires?

As directed I did not pull my battery so no need to learn new trims or anything like that. I saw an immediate improvement. Power transition is totally smooth... no soft or lag spots which wasn't the case with my stock coils.
I have a baseline from late 2008, early 2009 for MPG. While I do not anticipate huge gains I will start tracking mileage for the next couple months for the sake of comparison. I do a lot of spirited stop and go driving so we'll see.

Thanks Charles and crew for hooking this up. While they've only been installed for a couple hours, I'm very happy thus far.
In the next couple months I'll be going FI so I'll have to some follow up at that point too regarding dwell and what not. I'll need to get that data to my installer when we boost. They're Cobb approved (or will be very soon) and I hope Jeff can pass along whatever magic may be necessary to keep these tuned and timed properly.

shell: I don't know HOW you went over a year without installing those coils. I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I got mine; couldn't wait to tear the box open and start playing with my new toys.

Thanks Charles! Top notch as always.
yeah Jedi, I totally procrastinated on the install. I'm still catching up from the intermission known as our latest kid! yellow fogs, gunmetal grilles for my cooler and radiator, and puddle lights are next.
....then the greddy with custom piping and an esmeril intercooler. gonna do 6 psi. I picked up the RB ashtray gauge pod and will be adding oil pressure, oil temp, and boost gauges. gonna do the oil stuff myself but leave the boost install for Dave at KDR --- a really good rotary shop right up the road from me... probably a late april, early may install if I'm lucky.
