Fix my confusion!

Well, i'm not a genius when it comes to my 8 just yet. and after reading reviews and seeing what you guys say, i'm not feeling the greatest about having ordered myself a K&N typhoon 2. I have a few questions that i'd love to be answered!

1. I live in florida, it gets hot, it gets cold, and it RAINS alot. was SRI a better choice than CAI?

2. Seems to be open to interpretation at this point, but it seems like no one who has said that the k&n typhoon 2 has actually dyno'd it.. i don't care if it doesn't give 10hp or at least 5.. but i want to know if i'm actually losing anything.

3. i've been reading and you guys are saying that the K&N typhoon 2 is a SRI "Hot" air intake

Part 69-6030-1TFK Product Specifications
Product Style: 69 Series Typhoon Kits
Estimated Horsepower Gain: 11.15 HP @ 8700 RPM
Color: Flat Black
Replacement Filter: RU-5123
CARB Exempt: See Application Link Below
System Type: Cold-air intake system
TUV Approved (Europe): No
CARB EO Number: D-269-32
Weight: 7.8 lb (3.5 kg)
Product Box Length: 18.25 in (464 mm)
Product Box Width: 14.5 in (368 mm)
Product Box Height: 8.5 in (216 mm)

But k&N believe otherwise? that's the item description for the intake. it'd be a great help, and i hope someone could put me at ease. Again i'm really looking for some mean sound and no hp loss/little gain.

1. Plenty of people have AEM/Mazdaspeed CAI's in Florida with no problems in the rain.
2. I have no dyno insight, but I believe K&N's claims, in a "lab environment.' In hot ambient conditions I believe you lose power as it ingests hot engine bay air.
3. K&N calls it a CAI since part of the kit shields the bay somewhat, but it's not a CAI in the sense that an AEM/Mazdaspeed is, or a Racing Beat with a Ram duct for that matter.

The Typhoon is loud, but that's a subjective thing and you may like it. The RX-8 in general doesn't profit much from an aftermarket intake or exhaust, so it's more an ear of the beholder thing. That said, in cool ambiant conditions you can get more out of the Typhoon then any other intake on the market, which again is a relatively small Hp gain.

Could have made a better choice, but you'll be fine....unless you go submarining!
Oh......and it doesn't get cold in Boca!
I consider it a "hot air intake" due to sucking in hot engine bay air.

Carwashes potentially yes............I was gonna mention that to you, but figured you already read it. I'm about 3 hours North of you and by our standards it's been cold, but c'mon!

I consider it a "hot air intake" due to sucking in hot engine bay air.
Me and AJ have the same mods. But he has the stock intake with a K&N filter and I have the K&N v2.
We where out driving our cars. Then let our cars idle for about 20-30 min. The He put his Cobb AP on his Car. It showed his intake temps going up to 202. Then he put his Cobb AP on my Car and we had the same intake numbers .
So is it really sucking up hot air or are people just saying that cuz thats what the heard or where told

I do not have this setup anymore. I went back to a stock airbox with dropin filter and the Revi air duct. But you could get a 6" plumb quick adaptor form Lowes or Home Depot and install it as below to force the filter to draw air from the front factory tubing...

good idea cornholio.. i like. but do you sacrifice some sound resonance adding extra tubing? i've got it installed now, i hear the loud noises when i rev/accelerate but if you just accelerate at normal speeds and shift between 3-4krpm you can BARLEY hear the difference between the intake and stock it's only at high rpm OR quick acceleration do you actually hear a difference. not to happy about that.. but yeah i'm still happy with the change

It's not actually like that, there's who posted hard data regarding the intake temps with the K&N intake. Username's flashwing, feel free to search.
