Flameeeee Onnnnnn
Well i installed the B&B midpipe yesterday and so far im happy with the results. The install was easy and took 30-40 min. I used the stock o2 sensor but after a few hours of driving my CEL came on,so im going to need to order the o2 fooler. The midpipe was a perfect bolt on,no problems. At first the sound was quiet and deep.After having it for a day and driving the car hard the sound got much more "rotary". I dont know how to explain it. I have the K&N intake too so maybe thats why,but it really brings to life the sound of the engine. It sounds like 10,000 killer bees exiting my exhaust. My brother and friends told me it sounds like a exotic sports car,it has the exhaust note of a M3 and a ferrari rolled into 1 (the sound is quieter though). Boy this thing pops. In the car i cant really hear it,but outside people say it backfires "pops" during shifts. The best part is.................the flames. Rev to 9,000 rpm and you get a nice 2 foot flame out of both exhaust and a pop that sounds like a gunshot,literally. Power wise i can really say i feel a nice enough difference in the midrange. At 4,000 rpm to 7,000,maybe even to redline i feel a gain. :D

By the way i just did a search and read that the o2 fooler will not work with the midpipe...its only for the highflow cat. Can anyone figure out how i can make the CEL go away. Its annoying there and if i really do have a problem with something i wont know because its already lit. Also when i go in for warrenty work at mazda they will wonder why my CEL is on.Any help is appreciated.

"I called Mike at Casper Electronics and they are going to send me a 02 sim for behind the cat. Since I am running a SR High Flow Cat & Racing Beat back cat exhaust, Mike said that the 02 sim, if wired properly(no plug-n-play for the RX-8) should correct the 2 codes(heater & cat efficency) and get rid of the CEL, which is a very common problem with High Flow Cats on all cars, not just the RX-8.
If you are running the midpipe, then the 02 sim will not work, according to Mike and they specifically state that on their website."

Guy (Mike) has no idea what he is talking about. I have the same setup (SR hi-flow cat & RB exhaust) and I did not need an O2 fooler. The o2 fooler is made specifically for midpipe/straight pipe. Many of the people on the board that use the Casper o2 fooler on their midpipe units.

Actually, the first few hours i had it,when the windows were closed i noticed a slight eggs/sulfer smell. It was very light, not even bad enough for me to open the windows. After driving it for a day and breaking it in i havnt smelt it again. The only new smell i noticed is if i stand behind the car, it smells like pure gasoline or fuel comming out of my exhaust. It use to smell like just hot air,now u can smell all the fuel. Oh well it doesnt bother me. This thing sounds better everytime i drive it. I really recommend it to everyone. Even if you dont have the money for the name brand midpipes,have one custom made for you for dirt cheap. With the intake, i can honestly say i dont feel any power gains until about 7,000 rpm and maybe even than its just my head playing games with me,but with the midpipe i have let several people drive it and they have all been able to say theres a power gain in the mid rpm range.

Do you guys really think I need to spend the money and get a B&B midpipe or cant I just go to a muffler shop and have them install a straight pipe and I will add a O2 fooler?Im tring to save money to get the ZEK nitro kit and and some sway bars and dont have the money to do it all this summer.

you dont need the o2 simulator, I have a catless midpipe with resonator and my CEL came on for about an then went off after a little bit of driving. That was six months ago, has not been on sense.

i am running the B&B mid pipe and have the fooler. mine was a bit of a hack job but we got it to work. i should be getting a new o2 sensor once my car is out of the body shop and i am just going to run it without the fooler. hopefully the some thing will happen like in superscouts situation. i don't mind it being on for a little while as long as it shuts off eventually. if not then i will order another fooler and wire it in. enjoy your flames...my friends go nuts driving behind me!!!

I have just the midpipe,everything else is stock. After i get my stereo system in,im going back and finishing the exhaust with some mufflers.It is illegal for a shop to take off your cat,but many do it anyways. I went to a Meineke and thats a big place,and they did it no questions asked.

stupid question here but I do not know much about midpipes. When you install the midpipe are you replacing the portion of your exhaust that has the cat. conv. with pretty much just a straight pipe?
