i have the Exedy Clutch and ACT flywheel combo. The lighter ACT one. I absolutely love this setup. I must say it's one of the best mods i've done to my 8.
Thanks, rishie

no wayyy.... howd you get an aftermarket flywheel installed without voiding the warranty? the service guy i talked to today clearly stated that if i had an aftermarket flywheel, it would void that part of the warranty....
also, important question: how would mazda know if i changed the flywheel? can i get a non-mazda dealership to install my new flywheel, and not tell mazda? that way, my warranty wont be voided... and if worst comes to worst, i could switch back flywheels without them noticing in case my whole tranny or whatever dies?

It all depends on the dealership you go to. Some will claim to void it, and some wont even care. If you go 3rd party they technically wouldnt know unless the dropped the tranny to take a look, or if you have a trans issue.

and is it a bad idea to have a third party mechanic install the flywheel instead of the dealership? if there's really no difference in quality and reliability, then i'll probably buy the ACT prolite and have a third party mechanic install it, and then keep it a secret from my dealership.... because my car has another 4 years until the warranty is done, and i sure as hell dont wanna wait that long....
oh, and P.S., i forgot my disclaimer - if you work for Mazda, then please know that this is all hypothetical and that i would never install anything aftermarket that would void my warranty without telling you... and while we're at it, i've never gone over 70 mph either, because i dont want my warranty voided like the other guy...

damn, maybe i should move to texas for some more friendly dealers... lol

First of all the springs in our disc are heavier and allow for less rotation than the stock RX8 disc which is exactly what you need for performance use. Secondly, the flywheel is significantly lighter so more torsional vibration gets to the clutch than normal. If it is torsional vibration, you don't have to worry about any problems associated with the noise.

And Speeddemon32 was able to find the rattle in his system...problem for him has been resolved as well. Was a heat sheild I believe...and not anything related to the actual flywheel, more to do with the reinstallation of parts after the install.

I would guess that the 12 pound weight is w/out counterweight. I believe Speeddemon32 posted the weight of the counter weight on the first post.

yes I did. and I agree. I would assume that is without as most of them claim their numbers without. in fact, most make you buy the counter weight on the side. (which should also be noted on the first page)

Just had the exedy stage 1 clutch and flywheel put in. Love it! I notice a big difference with the flywheel. The flywheel did NOT come with a counterweight so id assume the weight is without the counterweight. Counterweight cost me somewhere around 150-180 from mazda

Cel
Which of these flywheels DO NOT cause the car to throw a CEL? I was looking at the fidenza because of that nice write up on it but the guy said he gets a CEL @ 7K. Does this happen to all the flywheels other than the MS Flywheel or does the MS throw a CEL too? Also has anyone redlined their engine with the new flywheel to test and make sure you dont get a CEL?

The CEL was only present on the first test run at high RPMs. I've put about 7K miles on the car since then and I haven't had a CEL at all, that is even with the underdrive pullies adding to the overall engine weight reduction. I think the CEL was just caused by the car not being used to the acceleration of the lightned components in one way or another. I didn't pull the CEL, so I guess we will never know.

As you can see, it never remained a problem.
