Mileage is not that bad. Driving in city you gain some miles, you just lose something on the freeway. With 50 litres of gas I actually do around 300km, driving fast (lots of beeeeps... eheheheh). My mileage is almost the same as before.

Actually it's not possible to flash the ECU yourself. Astra Racing can flash the original ECU, because they have access to original Mazda code to reprogram the ECU. Reprogramming the ECU and installing a free flow cat (the same of the racing car), they can go up to 265hp on the euro-spec RX-8. The racing cars have 275hp.
It'll be my next mod...

Skyrise,

Do Astra's gears work on US Spec RX-8's? If so, is it possible to buy them and have them shipped to the States?

By the way, what part of Italy are you in?

Yeah, it's possible, the final drive rack and pinion and the LSD are exactly the same on the US, Japan and Euro cars. They can sell and ship in the US.

I'll contact Astra and tell them to post here (hfalex, from Astra Racing, already posted on this board some time ago).

I'm from Tourin, in the north, Astra Racing is near Tourin too.

Skyrise,

Thanks for the help. It would be great to be able to speak with the guys from Astra Racing on this forum.

By the way, I asked about where in Italy you are because my mother was born near Naples.

I've contacted Hfalex of Astra Racing, I think he'll reply here by monday with further information.

Never checked my 1/4 mile time, but the difference vs. stock car is really noticeable, and the car is a lot more fun to drive.
To give you a rough comparison, Astra Racing told me that the racing RX-8 with the 5.125 final drive and the improved LSD is 4 second faster on the Monza track vs. the racing car with stock drive and LSD.

EXHAUST+CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL+REVI INTAKE+GEARS+INTERCEPTOR-X=the RX-8 Mazda should have built!!!

Correction...add a turbo/intercooler in there somewhere as well!

Finally took the plunge and got the FEED 4.777 final drive - the car feels much more responsive in every gear - the step up in performance is like going from stock to lighten flywheel (I have the MS flywheel). The car pulls eagerly from 2500 rpm (even in 6th) and acceleration is much better.

Revs when cruising is a bit higher - abt 3000 rpm for 90kmh (56mph). Not too bad for me as I do quite a lot of city driving.

Overall, a solid mod if you don't do too much highway driving.

Fab 8,

Where did you purchase the FEED 4.777's and what did they cost? Were there any other supporting parts that were needed or did the kit come complete?

Thanks for the info...

Thats not bad considering that we are normally at 3k rpm at 60 mph.

But over long highway trips it could add up to a lot. I want someone to fab a new 6th gear, much taller than our current 6th to improve highway mileage. That way, I can get a new final gear and a new 6th and have the same/better highway mileage with improved performance.

My mechanic helped me to get it direct from Fujita in Japan, so it was at the listed price (around US$600). You also need to get some Mazda gaskets etc which is another US$300 or so.

I just received an email from Rotary Extreme in California. They said it is 6-8 weeks to order the Fujita 4.77's and the cost is $850 including shipping from Japan.

here's the link to the Astra spare and performance parts pricing page, multiply the euro prices x 1.2 to get US dollar pricing, plus shipping
