You don't really nec. need a boost controller. The stock Greddy Turbo Kit makes about 6 psi. A boost controller allows you to control how much boost you want to run. Some boost controllers also allow you to adjust how much boost you want to run on each different gear. I would recommend it of course, but it's not needed to get your car running and started with the Greddy Turbo. Also, searching and researching more about this would be a *must. If you don't know enough to even know what a boost controller does, I would research more before buying. Turbocharging isn't a joke could cost you a motor if you dont' know what you are doing. Read in the major horsepower threads and research to see if this is for you. If I were you I wouldn't even get the Greddy and I would go with the BHR/MM upgraded turbo kit. You spend less money getting all the things you will eventually want in the future.

First, the RX-8 has a single catalytic converter.

Try and read all of the "Sticky" threads that have anything to do with the engine part of the RX-8.

Boost controller does more than allow you to increase boost levels. It allows you to control spool time, so you can spool up faster.

All in all, it's not required, but once you're turbo, a BC is one of the best things you can buy for your car.
