Going to test the exp4 fuel & Oil additives

http://www.exp4additives.com/products/

Actually, it appears I'm not the only ones that will be buying the gas and oil additives from Exp4 and testing them on a Rx8 per the owner of Exp4, so look for others results as well. The owner, Mark, who was nice enough to take the time to explain his product, basically gave me and I'm sure anyone else) a money back guarantee if I felt the product didn't add anythin in terms of HP and mileage, so I figured for $35 for a kit it was worth a shot.

Incidentally, it appears that the promotors of the Cannonball Run will be using the product and Car and Driver will some have a writeup on the results, so these guys seem to be willing to put it on the line as far as product goes.

The additives in the oil enhancer are compatible with Royal Purple, and it appears the best result is adding on bottle of each every oil change (5000-6000mi).

I'll keep everyone posted about the results. I should get the product early next week.

well the oil and gas additives are in the car, filled up to the brim with Chevron 93, so we'll see this week what happens to my mileage.

I wanted to come back and update my thread after having enough time to test the products.

Well, after several thousands miles with the oil and gas additives, I can't say that I notice any discernable difference in gas mileage or idle quality. It’s a little more difficult to judge the effects on my oil, other than to say that when looking at my dipstick, the oil color is still noticeably purple (I use royal purple). I haven’t noticed any bad effects either, such as excessive soot on the tail pipes, hard starts or flooding. I have not had the chance to take my car on a good long trip in this test, so its possible I could see benefits in gas mileage under those conditions.

So does this mean the product doesn’t work?… Not necessarily. Its possible that the effects of the gas and oil treatment may work differently on a piston engine, and for the cost, it might be work trying out if you have another piston vehicle. In addition, if your 8 is suffering really poor mileage, it might be worth a shot as I have gotten pretty close or exceeded the 18/24mpg without the product.

I think several other 8 owners should try the product out to see if helps them at all, would make this a little more scientific.

Money back?

So, with no discernable driving or economy differences, will you be asking the snake oil salesman for your cash back?

I'm waiting to see what the quality of my oil is when I do a change before I pass judgement. As I pointed out, I don't think that the gas product doesn't have value, it just may not work as well for our engine type.

I suppose I could ask Mark for a refund on the gas treatment bottle, but I'll wait until I analysis the oil and decide then.
