Good Health!!??

hey guys... I searched and have yet to find anyone talk about this... lemme know your thoughts...

what, in your opinions are the best mods and brands there-of to obtain the best OVERALL HEALTH of my 8....

Not asking for horsepower... but what I would like is have the car running as smoothly and as happily as possible...

My current plans are as follows... and I'm hoping that by adding them I'll get the healthy car goodness as well...

RB intake & duct...
Still researching the BEST oil...
Still researching the BEST tranny fluid...
Looking to swap all fluids for as stated... The BEST
AP pulleys
Lightweight flywheel still researching the BEST brand...
Full exhaust... still researching the BEST brand (as opposed to my current straight pipe)
Headers... of course the BEST...

I guess what I'm really trying to accomplish is the finishing of my research so that I can get a plan (financial) together...

Thanks guys

i've been seeing bits and pieces around the board about the benefits of effective cooling...

how does that fit into the plan? per say...

the onyl thing you mentioned that has anything to do with the "health" ie longevity of your 8 is fluids...

-fluids, oil injection, cooling, cleaning, maintenance, PCM control of certain things, driving style/habits

-research diff/tranny fluids, oil, coolant, brake fluid

-get the Sohn OMP adapter

-think seriously about cooling mods via waterpump/radiator/PCM flash for fan turn-on temps/air flow control

-learn how to properly clean the car including the engine bay

-learn how(and when) to properly maintain the car

I've taken my NA RX-8, with bone stock cooling to the race track in 100 F and 60K later my engine is still going strong.

Unless you live in the American Southwest, or its equivalent, the factory cooling system will do most just fine. In fact, in the nothern winters gettting oil up to operating temp range can be a challenge.

Just get an access port. Lower fan turn on temps, more oil injection, better gas mileage and maybe even a few HP. Redlien every day.

Saphus,

How do you plan to use your 8? Is is street driven only? How hard do you drive it?
Do you take it to the track/autocross?

If you street drive it and don't abuse it, you are probably fine with good name brand fluids. Mazmart is recommending that people switch to the 10W-40 oil and to premix. Even if you up the OMP output, Paul was telling me that it doesn't look like the arrangement of the oil nozzles are ideal, at least in the pre-09 cars. Use a quality premix like Idemitsu.

That said, it never hurts to go to high quality fluids. I just don't know that in average driving they are worth the extra cost. As far as dino vs synthetic oil, there is a whole huge thread on that.

My recommendation would be to talk to Paul at Mazmart about engine longevity questions. I think Mazmart has probably rebuilt more renesis motors than anybody but Mazda, and I would be their quality and attention to detail are much higher, especially considering they have Rick Engman running the show If you don't know about him, he has build some of the most successful racing rotary drivetrains in history, including class wins at LeMans and several IMSA championships.
