the argument here is how much it really costs to hit 290whp

Your upgrade list is no doubt going to cost a pretty penny, however for this discussion most of your upgrades do not count because they do not contribute to power gain.

there isn't really an argument.
It has been proven possible.
I am just clarifying things. yeah, if one has the skill, it can be done. Otherwise, I would not recommend an average guy to try this sort of thing at home

Agreed. I could have hit 300hp for about $5400. However, I would have been very concerned with the reliability.

Its all about the ratio.

How much fixing are we talking about here?

I have been looking at the Greddy and if I do that I would get a used kit, if Mazsport does the turbo upgrade, and see how the AccessPort works.

Would there be alot more involved after that?

Of course I would do fuel pump, injectors, motor mounts.

Already have a clutch and flywheel so that wouldnt be an issue.

turbo kit
bov
replace hoses (especially the reducer under the charge tube)
oil restrictor

hmmm, that's about it. there really isn't much you need to do.

I would recommend MM's turbo upgrade over anything with the greddy for the simple fact that the bearings in the greddy always wears out after 10-20k miles before requiring a rebuild

The turbo included in the GReddy kit is a journal bearing turbocharger. This type of bearing relies heavily on the flow of oil for cooling and lubrication. However, because of the low placement of the turbocharger, it is easily swamped by oil flow since the drain is so short and relatively horizontal. This requires the use of an oil restrictor to avoid having oil introduced into the turbine (in boost) or compressor (in vacuum), which would cause smoke.
Restricting the oil flow to a journal bearing has some unintended consequences.
Since the volume of oil is reduced, its cooling effect is greatly reduced, causing premature failure of the bearings - especially after prolonged idle after hard running. Shutting down while hot is even more detrimental.
The ball-bearing turbo included in my upgrade kit has a significantly lower oil requirement, making a restrictor not only acceptable but necessary. This eliminates the oil loading that can lead to smoking.
The heat in the turbo is actually controlled by the flow of water from the engine cooling system, which stabilizes the temperature of the bearings - not only when the motor is running, but also after it is turned off via convection.
