"Harrision R&D" 's Re-Flasher NOT
Moved from a different thread as it was off topic.......
Dan, Thank you for joining in.
I contacted Dan asking for help. Dan could not reflash a RX-8 PCM. I figured out how. Pettit needed a reflashing tool and I did not want to be in the reflash tool business. I tried using the Apex for a data logging tool (you need to see the data the PCM "sees" if you are going to tune the PCM) and it was unstable. I had to abandon using the Apex and returned the unused Apex chips. I asked for my money back (around $300) and Dan did not return my money. Dan was unable to get the programmer done for Pettit in a timely fashion. I told Pettit that I would do it if Dan missed one more "I'll have it done by" date. Dan missed another date and I did the programmer. After bricking two PCMs which I fixed, Dan finally got the programmer done. That is an honest time line.
Some more facts - Dan asked for the ability to reprogram PCMs so he could modify about four constants (rpm limit, top speed, fans,,). I said yes provided he build a reprogrammer for Pettit. Dan has now used my work product to produce a general programmer. He DOES NOT have permission to do this.
Now let's step back and look at this-
I did the work. If I choose to enable EFIDude to build a programmer, that is my business. EFIDude did build the programmer for Pettit and it works VERY WELL.
As for who is lying, why on earth would I enable someone like Dan to do a reflasher with my work product royalty free? Why should he make money on my coat tails. I was doing the guy a favor by letting him add some value to his product. In return, he rips me off. My mistake but I would rather trust people and be proven wrong then clam up and talk with no one.

How does this thread help any RX-8 owners? Dan's product while not great, has helped many members here for a long time and Dan has aways tried to help fix any problems. You should take personal matters like this off-line.

Agreed.
While the CANScan was buggy at best, it was also the earliest available product of its type and made it possible for many of us to make significant inroads to tuning the RX-8 years before anything comparable was available.
I would suggest that you and EFIdude take the high road and use your "shoot-out" thread to its best advantage.
The winner will shake itself out.
Believe me - though I am working with the Cobb AP, I am NOT adverse to finding a better solution if one exists.
And you can rest assured that I am thorough and hold no punches.

As for where this kind of info belongs, I read these threads and forums in general to find out how people do business. If my comments about H R&D offend you because you like Dan and he has helped you, by all means say so. By the same token, please do not chase away valid negative feedback as it may save you or someone else money and time in the future.

Yes I have his products including the RX8 enhanced software package which came out waaaayyy before any other company would even consider focusing on a mazda product like that. Hell, in late 2003 you had a hard enough time getting an OBD manufacturer to produce something to read the CAN bus, yet alone getting one to tailor the product to read all the sensor found on the RX8. It had bugs and Dan was always willing to help and continued to fix the problems.
I personally would not buy your product just because of your attitude. After almost 5 years of this board being alive, you suddenly jump aboard one day trying to hock off your god's gift to the community right before several other well know products are about to launch and for no reason rip on someone who was there for the community when there was nobody else helping... so in conclusion

Thanks
Thanks for all the support guys, and your right, this is a waste of forum space and belongs elsewhere so I'll only say this once and try to make it short. Bill can rant forever if he wants to. I have a backlog to get out the door by next week and don't have time for this.
I entered into an agreement last Spring with Bill at BILL'S REQUEST, to assist in the development of an RX8 Programmer. He asked me to assist the effort and in return I would have an RX8 programmer when this was over and Cam would have his problem with re-flashing taken care of. I agreed to help out and provide Bill with any and all the knowledge I posessed about the RX8 and CAN communications, the security protocol, and anything I could help with. As we neared completion of the programmer for Cam, I noticed I did not get an order for units and Bill was becoming evasive and dragging his feet. I wasn't until last week I learned he was producing a programmer of his own, in violation of his earlier agreement. He attempted to with hold a critical piece of the reflashing pie, so to speak, as leverage to limit my ability to produce a product, but I figured out the last piece on my own and greatly perturbed his plans for monopoly. So here we are, he has a programmer and so do I, we will let the market decide who wins.

Dan and I were discussing taking the CanSCAN from reader to flasher probably at least 2.5 years ago. He was already heading in that direction.
He's always been responsive WRT dealing with any noted issues. Definitely a straight shooter in all my dealings with him.

While I am not going to base any opinion of my own on either of these products, I will say that it doesn't look good when someone new joins the forum and most of their posts is aimed at trying to discredit or insult another person's product. That's not a very good way to promote oneself. Especially if you are trying to sell a prodcut of your own.

I'd have a guess (and hope) that since Lola has got things off his chest, he will quieten down a little. I'll also make a prediction that Lola wont be marketing a product of his own anyway.
Anyway - I way too busy to get involved in this. This tuning stuff is very hard!
Cheers,
Hymee.
