I also need to know how to keep the tailpipes clean. They get so black and dirty that they blend into the apron. I wonder if one could fashion some type shields before they exit the bumper so rear wheels do not kick up road muck on them.

I made a thread a long time ago about designing a center-exit exhaust.

Having not met rotarygod in person (yet), I really couldn't get this project off the ground. Plus, I'm broke as a joke.
I use the finest steel wool to clean the tips. It works quite well. I've also used a fine, abrasive towel for cleaning the stainless steel tables at work. It won't leave any scratches. I'll find out the name once I get back to work tomorry.

Thanks for the thread shelleys man 06. I was thinking of a Supertrap muffler off a Harley since the CC's are the same as the 8's. I was in doubt about the backpressure issue. Performance is not an issue with me as I have an automatic tranny- just want something different to hear/see from the ordinary(not to say that they are) 8.
I was thinking louvers for the old exhaust openings and cutting out the area around the rotor emblem and bracing the apron with strap.
The exhaust system on a 1964-66 442 had no muffler as the exhaust pipes were actually internally ridged to deaden sound- would be perfect for a straight pipe setup if one could be found.
