Help needed, project car to run against my friends' cars

ok, i have two buddies who are street racers like many of us here. One of them drives a 350Z, and the other a S2000, and of course, myself, like everybody here, drives an 8.

My 8 is 05, manual (traded in my old accord for it..lol), anyways, we were making this deal, that in exactly half a year, we will go to the nearest track and go head on against each other. Winner takes glory AND the brand new plasma 34" TV that we won off a contest....

anyways, the point isnt really about the TV and all that, but I would still like to win.. :p

My 8 is pretty much stock, only thing i have is a body kit with a spoiler (I used to fall in love with the exterior of cars)..

Im not sure what the S2000 guy has, for he is not willing to share info on what mods he has or going to get...

The Z, has the greddy twin turbo kit, full body kit, spoiler, exhaust, intake, boost controller, and better tires (dunno what tires he has, he just said BETTER than stock)...but that bastard wouldnt tell me what his car dyno at.

Anyways, Im trying to mod my car starting next month (once I get my paycheck)..I desperately need suggestions on what I need to do...for quick power...

SKILL wise, we are about the same....althought I would say the S2000 guy would be the worse out of the 3 of us.

My cornering is just as good as the Z guy, but as of now, he will pwn me in the straights...and the course we are racing on, have about 30% uphill...so....power will be a big factor...

You can bring the beer & pizza when you go over your friend with the 350 Z house to watch Speed Channel on HIS 34" Plasma. Those other cars will always be able to out mod the RX-8 If they were stock I would give you another answer. Or you can get a Z06 Vette.

how much twisties are we talking about? You should be able to keep your own there, power does not mean much when taking a tight cornering when your car has 60/40 weight and high polar inertia. The uphill will kill you, car don't have much torque so unless you got some speed (and revs) built up you might bog down. Unfortunately, even with the Z being stock, modding the 8 would just bring it up to par to it power-wise.

You can start by gutting your car.

Yeah dude, I suggest you go ahead and try to find a TV on sale around the Labor day weekend. I'm sure Good Guys or Best Buy will have some good deals. Either that or you can put water in their tanks the night before, but thats below the belt.

oh come on now. The 8 with enough mods has a good chance of beating the other two in the twisties. Of course on a straight away, with an equal amount of money dropped in all three, the 8 will come in last. So either spend more money than them, or rely on the curves. First you need to up the power, so add some boost. SFR or PTP will have the two highest power kits out. SFR is ready now and PTP will be ready in a couple months. SFR is about $7.5k, PTP about $6k.

Unless you have some seriously deep pockets & your friend don't I suggest you are in trouble.

1. Wait for the PTP Motorsports turbo kit (Maybe boost controllers/upgraded injectors, etc.)
2. Lightest exhaust you can get (titanium or Corksport)
3. Light rims (SSR Comps)
4. Set of Falken RT-615's
5. Set of Coilovers or RB Springs/Coilovers
6. RB Sway Bars
7. MS F/R Strut Bars

Might have a chance, provided he doesn't do much more too crazy.

330 WHP+better tires+equal driver skill, I Don't think a single turbo 8 has a chance.

good amount of power...but what are it's 1/4 mile times and 0-60.....if you can't use the power it doesn't do much good. of coarse i think our car as more issues in this area than teh z or teh s2000

btw, since you guys are going to run on a track WITH TURNS, may i suggest a competition format that'll more or less neutralize any power advantage your friends may have:

try to run in a pack during the session, let one of you lead the pack, and see if the other two can keep up. of course if you're way faster than the guy in front you, go ahead and pass him :D Change the order at next session and repeat this format :D

This should cancel out a lot of the power differences and put most of the competition in the hands of the driver :D

tonychan,
do a google search for hp rating for 350z and s2000, then tell us what track. then to make it not a waste of are time you might want to post a pic of you and your car in the town where you claim the track is.

lots of 0 to 4 post people wasting are time, and if i am wrong you might want to check out this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/turbochargers-superchargers-compilation-63023/

just an idea.
