Highway gas mileage results with Revi intake

Here are my highway gas mileage impressions after installing the Revi Intake:

note: I consistently use 93octane

After a Memorial Day road trip from Houston to New Branfuels, I did a study of my gas mileage as I always do. As we all know, our cars are rated 18/24mpg by the EPA. My city mileage is usually 15mpg with the A/C on and 16-17mpg with it turned off. The Revi intake did not seem to change my city mileage by any measurable amount.

Prior to installing the Revi intake, I managed to get 22.7mpg cruising at 70mph with just myself in the car with the A/C on along with the other accessories such as the radio and headlights. With all the conditions the same, and the A/C OFF, I managed 25.7mpg. At this point my car had about 10K miles and the only major mods were royal purple engine and transmission oil and MS suspension.

This weekend, with the only differences being the Revi Intake, Racing Beat ignition wires and my car having about 12.5K miles, I got 24.77mpg with the A/C ON!!! It was about 85 and fairly humid on the first leg, and again I was cruising at 70mph.

Only my trip home today, I tried to cruise at 70mph, but due to rain and light, I prolly averaged a speed of 65-67mpg and again, with the A/C on, I got a tick under 27mpg!!!

Now, I didn’t empty my tank with these tests, both legs were about 160mi, I filled up on the highway and immediately filled up again upon arrival. In addition, I recently replaced my spark plugs with the new revised regular plugs around 10K.

If I got the same bump in mileage without A/C with today’s results, I’d be damn near 30mpg. Was this all the Revi? Not sure, but it was the most major mod since my last test. I doubt the spark plugs would be the difference, the stock ones weren’t that fouled. The ignition wires are better, but again, I doubt the difference is there.

I do have a CZ box, but it was not installed for this trip. With some ECU tweeks, makes me wonder how much more I can squeeze out.

That's pretty good MPG. I'm averaging 21-22 MPG combined city/highway of about 80 miles a day. Cruise set on 68 for highway. But I also seem to have a heavy right foot

seems as far as Hwy mileage goes, your right foot plays a big part. If your flyin down the road at 80-90mph, I don't car what kind of car you have, civic, G35, 3 series, miata etc... you going to hurt your mileage, most regular cars just arent designed for gas efficiency above 70-75mph.

Just wondering for the California users of the Revi Intake. I saw on the website its not legal or won't pass CARB. I'm new to california, so i was wondering how you guys go around that. Thanks.

We state that the REVi intake is "not legal in CA" because we have not yet submitted the part to CARB for testing. We fully plan to submit the part for testing in the near future and we will hopefully be able to recieve an exemption for use in CA. (Since the process is a "test" we won't know the results until the part is actually taken into consideration by CARB, and actually tested.)

For this reason, ALL RX-8 intakes that are being sold in CA are technically not emissions legal unless they have been granted an exemption by CARB. We have decided to be "up front" with this fact in order to avoid any confusion with our customers regarding the emission status of our intake.

I used to get about 205 miles to the tank, last tank I got 270. Only difference was the Revi. Also the 270 was with A/C on the whole time as it recently got hotter here.

Me too! And I was just about to get in with the REVi group buy, if not also from Cali. :o https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/racingbeat-revi-intake-pre-group-buy-sign-up-here-62647/

I suggest for those of you not to wait on the Ram Air Extension. Take advantage of the benefits of the intake as-is now.

Taking the front bumber off to install the extension at a later date is just an easy 15-20 minute job.

Hey Jim, would you know of any reputable installers for our cars in the northern california area? I wouldn't mind driving down to Anaheim to get the larger stuff put on but for the smaller items who would you reccomend up here? Preferable in the South Bay?

Wait a second, can Rotarygod chime in here.. can this intake or any intake for that matter increase gas mileage? If so, I'll have to go get me one of these, I'm at 220 tops full tank.

I've spoken with RG about the results, a better flowing intake simply makes the engine operate more efficiently, which becomes more apparent when you set the car at certain speed and the ECU optimizes the a/f. Now does that account for all the improvement? Not sure, that why I posted, I want to see what results others get. I have done other things to improve effeicency such as the royalpurple fluids, the spark plug wires, so I don't rule those out totally either.

That said, I think its a safe bet that the intake was the greater factor.

Have had nothing BUT better MPG w/the REVi. As a matter of fact my mileage is increasing w/each tank, as long as I take it easy that is. Last tank was 19.25 mpg - all city driving and quite a bit of AC running.

How would this work with a Turbo installed? I don't have a Turbo yet, but if this is really helping with the gas milage, it seems worthwile to get as long as I don't have to remove it when I turbo the car.

Besides, if it doesn't hurt anything, maybe my gas milage will equal out to stock when the Turbo goes on...well I can wish anyway hehe.

Oh, and are there any noticable performance improvements with installing this? I'd think probably very little...but that's just me.

I'm getting about 35-40 miles more until the low fuel light comes on since the REVI. (from 245 before to 280 now) This is with mixed driving and 3-5 redlines when out and about

Then "N" flashed actually reduced my MPG by about 15-20 miles, so I know it was the REVI.

How 'bout that, a mod that pays for itself

Inconceivable 20 + MPG

20MPG +. What are you guys doing? Using the the Hybrid engine MODE

I have never busted 20MPG. The best that I have ever received is 19. whatever.

Even after they said they checked my plugs and changed them and with the M flash I noticed a little improvement, but not drastic.

I've been kibitsing over this Revi for a while now and it seems that the reviews are in. I've heard that some haven't seen great MPG increase I hope that won't be the case with me.

Could it be the car ...VIN or the Gas? I put in 91 here in SoCal. I wish I could get 93 Octane. Would Octane boosters work? I'll do a search to find out.

20 MPG is worth making it my daily driver. :D

Bill
