HKS hi power installed!!

finally went to full function and picked up my exhaust yesterday and installed it yesterday.

first impression: the exhaust is very well made. HKS did a really good job on the exhaust. all the welds r really nicely done. the whole exhaust is really really light i didnt have a scale with me at the time but just by picking it up by hand it felt really light

Installation: installation was easy it took some time to get the stock exhaust off because of the hangers. but after that it was easy.

after instalation: first start up the engine sounded really really nice. this exhaust really gives out the rotary sound. it's a little bit leaning towards the loud side but i got used to the sound already within 1 day i highly recommand this product if anyone is shopping around for exhaust

Did you install it just for the sound or is there any HP gain?

FYI it weigh's in at 23lbs

On a natuarally aspirated 8 it won't make anymore power than the next aftermarket catback. On a turbocharged 8 there will be a hp difference. I believe during testing it made 10-12 more whp than the JIC catback. Testing was done on fanmans car. I dont have the dynograph but the power band read a little more different with the single outlet vs. the hks legamax catback. There was a difference in the midrange and top end though. Low end torque felt the same.

i don't think that would ever happen in the U.S. . the typical rx8 owner in the U.S. is cheap and would not want to spend the dime on something like that. Im sure it would cost as much as the titanium system they have for the 350z...which is expensive =(

The 350z Hi-power dual exhaust looks badass, too bad they didn't make something like that for our cars. Dammit

HKS does have dual muffler design as well - check out the exhausts stick thread.

This one is much lighter though.

like i said..RX8 owners in the U.S. generally are cheap and wouldn't even consider that. 350Z and G35 owners spend all kinds of money on their cars.

i actually ordered it from full function engineering they are located at union city near oakland bay area.

i used 14mm and 10 mm sockets and socket wrench to take off the exhaust and the ground wire that's been grounded on the exhaust.

2 screwdrivers and wd40 to take off the hanger it's alot easier that way
it was kinda hard to pop off the plastic thing that surround the exhaust there is 7 pins you have to push in and the whole thing pops out.

and you will also need allen wrench to tight the adjustable ti tip i forgot wut was the exact size but you can just go to local auto store and buy the ones that come in a set of 12 and it's the biggest one

How much do you think a muffler shop would charge me for something like this?

no more than 100. at my local shop I would say 50 tops. (hell they can change my brakes for 40 bucks, so probably even less for exhaust)

What about the mesh you put on? Just a standard hardware store piece trimmed to fit? How it is attached?

I have a picture of the grill atttached to the exhaust shroud. It was attached with small black zip ties. I also drilled tiny holes for the zip ties to go into it. Pretty easy

Do you need help? I'm thinking of the same exhaust and would like to see/hear it on your car.
