A few questions about Hi-power

I'm thinking about getting one but I have a few questions.

1. It says its ok for NA but I'm worried about losing torque. Anyone felt any
loss of torque?

2. Hows the sound level? Obnoxiously loud or can you cruise without drawing
attention?

3 Where's the cheapest place to buy it and how much?

4. Will it pass a smog check?

2. the sound level is alright if you have the oem cat. might still draw attention though. if you have a high flow cat or straight pipe then it will be pretty damn loud.

i wonder if there is space for a resonator on the connecting pipe

I notice nothing really. Could be loosing some, which I've read that a straighter pipe will do, but I cant notice.

I was actually kinda down on the exhaust for a while, it's extremely loud, but it has calmed down a bit and isn't quite as ricey as it was when I first got it.

That said, I think it would be unbearable with NA and a catless/highflow pipe, since it's this loud with a turbo in place..

If you're NA and are worried about torque, look at my post here on the apexi active silencer:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/apexi-active-tail-silencer-making-loud-exhausts-quiet-low-rpm-120269/#post1938719

I might be interested in selling it - since the car is quieter now for me. It would give you backpressure at low rev, and opens up at high revs, so you'll not lose torque, and it will be quieter until you floor it.

How much quieter did it get mysql??? I noticed my was def a tad quieter but a much deeper tone after about 500 miles (n/a setup)

It's not as bad, but the sound volume isn't a heck of a lot quieter...

with the apexi, it's very quiet. car sounds louder than stock, but the sound was lowered by a huge margin. when you floor it, it sounds loud again.

With a turbo, I already have enough backpressure from the turbo, so this addition didn't give me any gains. With NA, I can see the silencer helping

So it's definately one of the louder pipes out there. I read a thread where it was reported at 97 dB... now that's pretty loud when a Lotus Exige is only 90 dB and thats supposed to be a very noisy car.

So my other two questions. Will it pass smog and where is the cheapest price?

What I'm basically looking for is not more HP but just a nice rotary sound thats maybe 5 dB to 10 dB louder than stock. I'm on a budget so it can't be over $400.
Anyone heard anything about a good Universal Muffler?

take this for what it's worth, you won't get anything worth while exhaust wise new for 400 or less. Hop up racing sells this HKS unit shipped for 440 I believe, that will be the best you can get.

I love my Hi Powwa. Sounds great and it's the lightest stainless exhaust system for the RX8. To get lighter you have to buy titanium and that's mucho $$$

The only thing I don't love about it is I can't put a midpipe on it. I might try the RP Supercat and see how loud it gets. But I'm a tad worried...

I suppose it was asking too much to add this onto the original HKS HiPower thread rather than making a new one

oh wait, that would have meant using the SEARCH function, my bad ...

I have the HKS HiPower with the RP Supercat, fitment is a little shaky but it you if you have a good shop local they can help you out. I finally got mine fit properly and its a great combination. Yeah a little loud but if you resonate it, it should be fine. My FI project has kinda come to a hault due to financial issues but soon enough ill have it up and running.

Goodluck with the exhaust, hope you love it.
