HKS Intake Installation -> Checked! :) Impressions...
I finally got around it and installed this intake I purchased a few months ago from a fellow member.
Of course no instructions were sent so it took me a while to get it installed.
Quality: 6/10
Finish and fit: 5/10
Sound: 7/10
Performance: 6/10
I mean it's nice and all but for the price I expected something waaay better.
One thing I noticed is that it seems I am getting a bit more torque and while the engine sounds the same at below 5K RPM, after this... WOW... it's loud and I find myself hitting the rev limiter more often.... maybe 'cause the sound is a bit much for my taste now.
I am sure I'll get used to it.
One thing I didn't like is that there is no place to connect the vacuum line in the back as well as the one way cylindrical valve can.
Also the tube/pipe diameter for the rear is a bit smaller and I had to wrap a silicone hose around the circumference so the clamp of the TB could be securely tightened.
Bottom line, it's an OK intake.. I like it and I am sure I'll get used to it.
But is this worth ~ $450.00 new? NO WAY!!!! I don't think it's even worth the $235.00 I paid for it used.
FYI...

Hi Carlos,
I just finished the install yesterday. I know what you exactly mean after that 5k mark. I too find myself pushing the car more now...This was my first major engine install on this car so I am hoping i got everything right.
Is the vacuum noise from your intake noticeable? Mine is sounding like a very light ringing chirp while at idle. Also what did you end up doing with the green plug, I believe it was part of the stock VFAD. Just leave it unplugged?
I was able to steal mine brand new from ebay for 175. So I am happy with my purchase, but I am sure I would feel different if I paid $400. Probably would go flywheel/clutch instead.

wow such low scores on the intake. What were you expecting? If you were hoping on getting some serious power, there is no intake out there that will give you that. I had one of the first hks intakes in the states and have yet to see a problem. Fitment was not an issue with me, it could be caused by the way you installed it. I would first try loosening all the nuts and bolts, firmly push the box in to place, then tighten the screws. It should fit nice and flush. And about the intake tube, I had zero problems with that, mine fit nice and snug. Is it warped or bent? Looks like you got an excellent deal on the kit, not to sure why your complaining about the price, but try and find a good intake kit at the price you paid for, even the RB intake sells for 336.00.

Well... I know a thing or two about cars. Heck I did my own turbo install, ECU and tuning in my Miata.
I knew I was not going to get major power gains, heck not even minor gains but I was expecting a kit that, for the price, had at least brackets for the OEM vacuum lines!
Heck I even removed the whole stock intake and when installing it I lubed every single bolts for an easier fit.
It sounds nice and I like it, don't take me wrong, but now I see and understand the threads about leaving the stock intake.
I will keep it for a while. The one thing I noticed is kids seems to like it and at about 5 car lenghts they already know I am there. Of course with cops will be a different story.

Yes the intake can easily be heard when at WOT, but under normal driving conditions it's pretty close to stock. It's an excellent kit, (not because i'm biased) never had any issues with it like the other kits out there. I hope you enjoy it!
