HKS intake system

I saw and ad and confirmed the info on the HKS Japan website. They are releasing an intake for the 8. It appears to essentially be like the RE Intake... but maybe with a bigger filter? The actual size is listed as 200mm - 100mm. It's either SS or aluminum, covering the filter on all but one side. It has HKS writtten in the lid. I'll post pics when I can get my hands of some. The JP site says 65,000 JPY...

Certainly will. The HKS US site seems to only offer a small fraction of the parts they offer in Japan. I wonder if they plan to release this filter in the US or not. Hmm... something else to check on.

Costs less than the AutoExe intake... 110,000 JPY. Intake using the Blitz filter from Revolution is 76, 800 JPY and a similar one from Autobacs is 36, 540 JPY.

lol......alot of things cost less than the autoexe intake.

i know your paying mostly for the craftsmanship and insanely good looks but a grand on an intake system is simply not where my pocketbook can afford to hang.

Getting pics... well...

HKS has no form of electronic communication that I can find. So even after I call them, them may only send me print literature. There is the mag I saw the ad in for the intake... but it's print too... and I don't have a scanner, just a digital camera. I'll try to work something out, just be patient with me...

The AutoExe one is steep, but the instaled pic of it looks almost factory. The HKS one looks badass.

Unfortunately I likely will not have this much free time forever (and so my wife hopes!). At which point there's going to be less info from me. I hope the admins don't mind me posting this question....

How many people are interested in paying for an English JDM mag LEGALLY compiled from various sources? Essentially like a newspaper... they have a few new articles of their own, but purchase many from freelance, Reuters and Bloomburg... I'd get articles from a few mags, translate 'em, and add a few of my own... my project car, or a reader's project car... dyno tests, etc.

Check HKS Japan's website - they do list a Racing Suction kit for the RX-8. That means it's the yellow "mushroom" filter with an aluminum intake tube, but they don't say how the piping is run, etc. Also says it's for manual transmission only.

HKS part number is 70008-AZ005.

HKS's old green mushroom air filters SUCKED for air filtration - they let a LOT of crap through. Dunno about the newer filters.

I did say that it was shown on the HKS Japan site. I said it wasn't on the HKS USA site.

There are pics of it in a HKS ad in this month's issue of RX-7 Magazine (No.022 I believe). Like I described already... other than it using the HKS yellow mushroom shaped filter, it looks a lot like the RE Short Arm Intake. It is covered in a SS or Aluminum heat shroud with a lid (unlike K&N) that has HKS embossed on it.

No pics or further info yet. I will likely be able to call HKS on Thursday.

Weeeell. I called HKS Japan this afternoon. Talk about useless and rude. Basically the guy wanted to fax me info... I don't have a fax machine. So he finally agreed to email it to me, took down my address, and I haven't gotten anything from them yet (10+ hours later).

SO... I will see what I can find in the parts shops, maybe get a digital camera pic. If not... maybe I'll pic up that mag and try to get someone to scan the HKS ad for me.

Did I mention that HKS says that 65,000 JPY is just the MSRP. We'll see how much it actually costs at the store or through a dealer.

Weeell. I checked three chain tires/rims/audio/perfomance parts shops and none of them have anything other than minor stuff in stock. Anything good has to be ordered. SO... gotta think about this one. I'll check a couple other ideas I've got...

SuperAutobacs here in Garden Grove said they could order it for me, but i didn't want to stick around and wait on a price. I wonder if it would be cheaper since they have the direct japan connection? Interesting

I too considering checking Super Autobacs, but the nearest ones are a bit of a drive... and I doubt they're going to have it "in stock." Likely it'd have to be ordered.

For you... well it'll be slightly cheaper I'd imagine... as you won't have to pay the credit card fee, nor directly for shipping. On the other hand... they'll probably mark it up one way or another...

BTW... not much love for Mazda here either. Not even the 7... and it's fairly popular. Everything is Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mitsubishi. At least HOnda doesn't get much love too... :D

HKS USA just received an RX8 Racing Suction Kit (p/n 70008-AZ005) to test out here!

If everything goes well, plenty will be ordered for us!

I'll keep you guys posted.

Any word on this?

I got another look at the magazine today... in addition to the HKS ad, there is a short 1 page (mostly pics) article on it. Actually I think it's aluminum not SS and the lid has "Racing Suction" embossed on it, not "HKS." It's done in the hyper black that some rims are available in. It is supposed to produce a peak of 7-9ps (I think it was) and otherwise produces more mid-range torque. You can see the internal design in the article pics... it's not just a box around the filter... it has another partial shield build right around the filter.
