That resonator will be a problem for an FI app
I have a feeling the internal packing is going to burn out very quickly when I am FI. I wonder if I should go ahead and replace the resonator now with a unit from burns or vibrant.

It would be nice to hear it as is with the BHR pipe none FI first.

I was referring to the bottle neck flow restriction inside of it.

Updates! Exhaust is much more quite then expected with no cat and BHR mid pipe. It is just a bit raspy but that may or may not go away with time.

I will try and get some sound clips this weekend after I clean it up. It is really subdued, I am surprised. It is much more quiet than my TurboXS and HKS were with the BHR pipe. The fitment with the BHR pipe is perfect.

It actually sounds like a car with a stock cat pipe and cat back. That is until you rev it out and then it comes alive. I took a cruise on the highway last night and it does not drone at all and when you let off the throttle abruptly it does not gargle and pop like mine does but I know that will change as the exhaust ages because that is what happened with my HKS and that is what it does on my Turbo XS. It does have a rasp at certain RPM's but I too think that will go away in time.

The black chrome tips are money and match the theme of the car perfectly.

Overall it's a great exhaust. Too me it is on the quiet side but I have also had two of the loudest exhaust on the market so...........................

I have not tried to flame it, I will save that honor for Hoss-05.

Vids are cool but DO NOT choose your exhaust based on soundclips or video from the net. I have had the pleasure of hearing just about every exhaust available for the RX-8 in person and the sounds vary quite a bit and some that I liked when I heard sound clips or saw video I did not like when hearing in person. Which midpipe you use will have a huge effect on sound as well.

I'm sure it'll get louder over time, you just have to break it in!

Well before the FI go's in I will most likely be cutting out the restrictive resonator and putting in something else. I fully expect it to be louder then.

^^Word. What will you be using to take the place of the resonator?

The rasp is gone and the tone has changed a bit, I like it much better now. It still doesn't pop or backfire much. Maybe that extra resonator is reducing that effect. I should also note that this exhaust does not accommodate the ground strap on the exhaust but I'm not sure if that is absolutely necessary or not. So far so good.

That is good to hear Scott! I figured it would be fairly mellow. Is it more loud then say the racing beat standard? Dose it sound deepish like the borla?

Warren... its still on for beers when I get home! I would like to use a burns muffler with a 3" ID and as long as I can fit. They make a Really nice 17" unit. Check it:

But i'm not sold yet I need to think about it a bit more though. I am worried the packing material will not hold up to the heat. Also some people pay less for their whole exhaust then that one 17" muffler. I looked at the vibrant stuff a few months ago but they dont really make anything suitable. Any good ideas?

BTW did anyone else see Dave Coleman's newest article about his crazy *** aluminium exhaust with a RX8 resonator?

It's louder than the Racing Beat, has a tone similar to the Agency power, just not as loud. It's not anything like the Borla. It's unique and hard to describe. Let me get some video.

Aside from the SPD header I wasn't very impressed and will be surprised if it doesn't break

Not sure if you are looking for advise or what. The two systems are Very different. The exotic speed has many options like piping size, loud or normal, and different tips. The Greddy SE comes in one flavor.

Personally if I was staying NA I would have gone with Borla.

This was very helpful; answered some of the questions I had in the thread I posted a while back. Looks amazing and I as you love the options you can pick when ordering the exhaust. I have a couple questions if you don't mind; getting no response to the thread I have.

Why would you have stuck with Borla over the ES cat-back if staying NA?
I only ask because that was originally the cat-back picked for the car I am building until I found the ES system's options; I was most likely going to order the same buy in a 2.5" since it is N/A. Also, it will most likely never see any F/I of any kind so that is another reason why I ask. I am trying to get the most out of the car for the money staying N/A, and I definitely know that each piece you change and ad to the motor matters when building a car that way. I currently have an Injen intake for it and I am trying to figure out mid-pipe and header options now.

Second, where did you purchase your ES system from?
Just want to know a reliable shop to buy from state side if possible. I was thinking of getting a complete header back system from ES, but still struggling to find enough info as to what is the best option for the 8.

Thank you in advance.

In my opinion the borla unit has the best sound... hands down. It also has a great warranty if I remember right.

In my application I needed something with rather large piping and wanted it to be able to restrict the sound as much as it could. I will have to cut off the first resonator/muffler section as it is a bit more restrictive then I wanted when I go FI. That being said in its current state with the BHR cat-less mid-pipe it is Very silent for a 3" exhaust. I looked into Many alternatives like a custom build with burns stainless parts or some crazy JDM parts but at that price point I could have bought a new engine. I knew coming into it I may have to hack it up. So far this exhaust has delivered as expected and did not break the bank.

I ordered my parts through Assultech who did a very good job with my order.

Figured the F/I needs or larger exhaust pipe diameter had to do with it, but wanted to be sure. I will put that in to my thought process and thank you again.

I have a question about the PWR-Si system. I know that is reduces the level by 15 db's, but is it done with silencers or do they use different mufflers. Basically, can you remove the 15 db's reducer? I read their site and it actually sounds like it is what it is and you can't change it. The ES Titan II is what will go on the car, but just trying to see if I can get the PWR -Si and have the option to go to just the PWR setup? Thank you in advance.

nope car has been spending some Serious time at the body shop.... plus im kinda picky about videos and it may take a bit to set up.

I cant say for sure as I have never seen a none pwr-si set up in person. From the pics i have seen it appears to add a third muffler but is restricted down more then a little bit on the inside. I wanted the third muffler but was not expecting the sever restriction.
