IAT sensor mod questions

Has anyone performed the mod where you connect a resistor in-line with your IAT sensor for a HP boost? If so, did you get good results? What type of resistor did you use and which wire coming off of the sensor did you connect it to? Thanks for your input.

When we were at Racing Beat a couple of weeks ago, Jim Mederer showed us his ecu bench. One of the things he did was to change the air temperature signal to the ecu. When he did this, the timing changed as well as the amount of fuel being injected. Unfortunately I don't know which way it moved. It does something but whether it is a gain or not I can't say. I prefer to just stay away from those devices. The car already runs about 5% rich as it is. Running it richer doesn't seem to make any more sense. The whole point of those is to make the ecu think that the air is cooler so it can inject more fuel.

When I was racing, I thought about hanging resisters on the O2 and water temperature sensors. This was to fool the computer into making the mixture richer. I talked to another racer who tried it with the water temp sensor on the radiator. He said that didn't achieve the desired effect. I never got around to trying the O2 sensor. I was told it was easy to burn those up if you changed the impedance to much. The ecu on the early RX7 was a lot less complicated than the one on the RX8. Plus the 8 has two O2 sensors. I have no idea how changing the out put of only one would affect the operation of the car.

it would either change the a/f tune and timing to compensate or it would change the a/f tune and timing to compensate and throw a cel, probably a blinker. i bet on the 2nd.
