Installed the K&N Typhoon II, first thoughts...
Haven't gotten to drive it yet but here are my first impressions...
1) Install was a tad more difficult then I expected, however, nothing too bad. The worst was installing the heat shield to the to car, just no room for a socket and ratchet...but I found a way with different tools.
2) It seems to sit a bit higher on one side, it looks like it has a slope towards the middle of the engine. Its not huge, and my bf didn't notice till I said something...but i'm kinda picky. Is this just me or is this common?
3) Started it up, didn't notice anything different at idle, but from say 2500-5k in a rev is where you hear the sound everyone raves about. I smiled, but was hoping for more.
4) Going to run to the parts store and buy 3 small hose clamps, just for the vacuum lines. just to make sure nothing slips off. Also I noticed that those hoses are very close to resting on or near the alternator...that kinda concerns me.
5) Most eBay sellers are 316 shipped, there's one for 236 + tax + shipping. Amazon.com has it for 275 shipped....
I found it on www.filtersandintakes.com for 234.xx shipped. Was quick too, ordered Saturday, received Wednesday.

Don't worry about the hoses resting on the alternator. Mine are nearly crammed against my alternator and I've had no issues.
Be aware of the fact that you might experience some issues if you reset your PCM or pull your battery. The K&N typhoon uses a larger than stock diameter tubing that tries to fool the mass airflow sensor. When you reset the fuel trims the car will run lean for a bit at idle and might die on you till it gets reset.

And since it just passed 15k, might be awhile. I'm sure the financial cost will balance out.

they werent talking about making little to no hp they were talking about losing hp because everything on the rx8 has a ton of r&d in it including the intake. So by switching to a typhoon you made your intake a "hot" air intake.
as far as the filter yeah you dont have to buy a new one but a 40 dollar drop in filter would have accomplished that as well.
