The only real reason to get any aftermarket intake is looks. No worthwhile gains.

how does one see an intake from the outside of the car?

Intakes by themselves on the 8 won't do much at all.. but if it's that start of a process then hell yes. Intake, exhaust, pullies, flywheels.... add them all together and you're going to say the net gains are near zero?

I'm not sure how much research you have done, as the SR & Weapon R intakes are both crap. Intake you go either Racing Beat or AEM.

And anybody that says that it is worthless, is pretty much clueless. Shown that it adds hp, just like a lot of the other NA mods. Not necessarily the best bang for the buck compared to FI mods, but for NA mods it's as good as anything out there for the price.

Are you going to sit behind your keyboard and honestly tell me people don't put crap under their hood just to make it look good? Have you been to many car shows? Other than looks the only reason to get the intake is to modify the sound of the car. If you want performance gains from your intake just modify the existing box to accept the ram air from RB and take out some of the screens.

Edit: I never said anything to the effect that all those mods produce no gain.

Yeah I hear the AEM doubles the gains from a Turbonator.

Your engine will have a very high change of stalling @ highway speed if both of them are out.

Its there to straighten out the airflow.

k&n drop-in and RB ram here. modified oem box. best diy mod instead of handing money to other companies for some cone filter attached to a pipe.

not knocking it at all. but i just havev gone that route before... its really not just rx8's that get only slight gains...many modern cars too.

i just don't wanna void warranty or go through with the cop harassment hassle again. it ain't like the honda days anymore you know?

so yeah...thats a mighty fine set-up. easy to clean, not extra loud, and won't get into troouble for it. if those are your priorities.

I got an AEM installed on my car and it looks great and sounds even better. I doubt there was much gains but I got it for a crazy deal. Almost as much of a deal it was to get HPV off that hooker last night.... oh whoop I mean NO I didn't sleep with a hooker.

After market intake are over rated. Find the one that you want and make it yourself.. It'll save you $$$$

Since the OP never mentioned what would look good for car shows I assumed he was looking for HP increase or sound. Both of which an AEM or MS will do.
If you really think that putting an aftermarkter intake is only for looks then I guess we'll agree to disagree. I'll just be disagreeing a little faster with a little more HP.
