Intakes won't give noticeable gains, if you intend to spend the money on one anyway you might lean towards a real CAI (cold air intake) like the AEM\Mazdaspeed one.
You might want to contact a vendor here to see what offers they have!

I have the the AEM one after having tried several.
I would say that for Daily driving the best bang for the bucks is removing the 2 flaps in the stock airbox.
You might want to replace your catalyzer with a midpipe for that amount of money, there you could see some performance gain!

yeah the 250+ you will spend on an intake will not gain u much HP at all maybe 2 or 3 HP but for about the same price go with the midpipe some ppl say gains of like 10 or so that way.....Personaly i run the stock airbox mod (remove 2 walls like said above)..just coulnd't justify spending 300 bucks on an intake for 2 HP

There are a couple of people who runs the OBX exhaust on this forum and they all seem to like it.

As for the intake, go with AEM or MazdaSpeed.

I have the OBX had it for like a yr and a half I really like it...holding up good....(had to come up with my own hardwar as it didn't come with it even though they said it did but had all the stuff laying around the garage) it is really quiet..basically stock just a little deeper..i'm tryin to figure out a midpipe for it (prob Agency power) but the exhaust is good made nice w/ good welds(well i'd be happy if i had that nice of welds at least)....

as for a midpipe yes the CEL is going to come on unless u get the AP or some say a spark plug spacer moves the sensor(o2) out of the mainline stream of exhaust and does not trip the CEL but black electrical tape is alway 100% guaranteed to work...

as for midpipe's BHR (vendor on here) has one not sure about price
rx7store.com-resonated 280-non resonated is 199(ithink)
agency power on ebay(216 free shipping)

those are jsut a few in the range of an intake...

how does the black electrical tape keep you from getting a CEL?

If you never see the CEL does it exist? Kind of like the tree falling in the woods question.

^ahh the butt dyno didn't give anything noticeable but really not CATBACK on this car will give u much just a couple 5 MAX...the stock exhaust is really tuned and made pretty good....basically for the 8 when it comes to intakes and cat backs it's purly for sound...the hp gains on each won't b more than about 5HP (but prob lookin at 2 or 3 each) ......

so my suggestion would b visit youtube and listen to all the differnet exhaust and decide from sound they are all going to give you the same gains for the most part(which is not much)

adding a midpipe is another thing supposedly(don't have one yet) you can feel it in the butt dyno in the lower rpms....

as for the black tape thing EXPO is right....if you can't see it..then it's not there!

A midpipe WONT give you close to 10 whp. The whole exhaust will give you about 10 whp.

The intake will give you power gain that is similar to to the NA engine, it gives you little to nothing on the low end & progressively more on the top end. It averages about 2-3 whp across the board, but at the top end it's about 6-8 whp. But every NA HP adder is like that, the midpipe, the exhaust, the pulley, the Cobb, etc.
