I dont know where else to shop other than ebay. Is there some place else I can shop on-line for intakes?
I dont want to spend a fortune either.

all it takes is 5mph and there would be almost no hot air going into the intake.
Most aftermarket intake out there are Open. Are they all bad ?
To MtlRX8 :
AEM and Mazdaspeed is fine as long as you dont plan on cleaning your filter at all. when you do, have fun taking the bumper off. and careful when it rains.
Revi is good, but I have had no experience with it.
K&N is cheap, easy to maintence.
K&N is a bit cheaper. its your choice.

Nothing wrong with the stock intake but does benefit slightly with a K&N filter. The REVi is a very good and better designed airbox and filter (also K&N) but I feel it does need the REVi RAM intake duct to show any gain over stock. These are my seat of pants impressions only, so I could be wrong as regards any better performance, if any? 
I also agree that a CAI is the way to go, it can and does get very hot under the hood of the RX-8.

I'm only going with the K&N filter and ram air. I dont think anything else will do better then that combo, and that combo really doesnt do anything. It might make some power top end with the ram effect but that would be really hard to prove. I just wanna keep the colder air comming in.

There is quit a lot of permutations with two airboxs and two intake pipes and two filters, I did not try all of these permuations, only those I have already mentioned.

I just went with the K&N panel & RB duct. Also , you can remove one mesh screen from the stock intake without any ill effect (RB says each screen robs 1 hp). This combo is as good as anything else IMO .
Have done some acceleration testing & found that hot air does definately slow you down . The ram air duct is probably better than stock at getting the temps down .

plus the shipping was fast and it arrived in perfect condition.
Not all of the stuff on ebay is bad.
Zenclosures makes some good sh*t!
Also you can get that same k&n intake for the same price at AJ USA if you don't wanna take the ebay route.

on ebay it all depends on the seller. but if i can go back i would buy the revi ram air duck and leave the stock intake and if you want K&N that bad they make a filter for the stock box. if you go back to the dealer they can't give you **** about it

+1 for the AEM. Great sound, and costs a bit less than the Mazdaspeed CAI, even though it's exactly the same system. I would advise saving up and buying an intake that you're sure about rather than buying some cheap-o intake now just cause you don't want to wait. This is going to be something that is going to affect every second of the time you're driving the car, probably for the rest of the time you have it.

I'm very happy with my typhoon 2 with RB ram air duct. A little better pull at speed i.e. on the highway, no water issues, and very easy to clean/inspect. It's pretty inexpensive too.

Brettus, what is the disadvantage to installing just the ram air duct?
