Intake Intakes Intakes

Literally just bought my RX-8 and just joined this forum. Its a bone stock 2004; black and just got the windows tinted before I left for deployment. Ive been looking heavily into intakes as the first upgrade and I love the sound of the engine and would like to emphasize that a little more with an intake. I dont want obnoxious noise but something that louder then stock. The RB Revi with the duct is what Ive been looking at, is there any other one that produces a good tone? Any advice is appreciated.

So from my mere two hours of research, i can deduce that any aftermarket system is kind of pointless (except for Lasse's potential inlet) unless your looking for bling and noise. I dont care about either of these, just improvements.
I'll be keeping the stock box and filter then, but would there be much value to adding the REVi duct to the stock filter and box? What about removing one of the mesh diffusers before the MAF? Would there be any gain to smoothing out the inside of the air box too?

how about you take the time to read the last 9 pages. But to cut to the chase the stock intake is perfect except for the rough castings on the inside of the upper intake manifold. To fix it, take your air filter off, leave the MAF on and have a friend turn on the car and rev it up to about 7000 RPM. While hes doing this take silica sand and pour it into the MAF. The sand will smooth out the intake no problem. It's good for about 34.9whp

Stock air intake (as a whole) is the best, because the size and length of the intake piping indueces optimal air speed and volume into the engine across 3-5 different RPM bands. Unless you have a standalone that can adjust port timing, expect -30 to +5 horses from any intake.
Guess which gets the +5?

so questions.
Stock 2004 RX8's use Short Ram Intake?
If you put Ram Intake on you would have to have a modified hood?
What will push the most horse power out of a 13b with just an intake mod?
Which is most cost effective?

Alright thanks. I'll probably end up getting an AEM cold air to create more space under the hood. But it's good to know what i actually have

I have the Mazdaspeed/AEM intake and I get up to 5hp more at the crank. There is a definite performance boost. It is just physics. For every 10 degrees cooler intake temp you will see one hp more in a Renesis engine. Hey 5p3nc3 if you aren't getting anything performance wise you might have it installed and set up incorrectly. The Mazdaspeed/AEM intake is one of the few intakes that WILL make you a few hp in a Renesis engine. I have had years of experience with various intakes on my seven rotary cars and the Mazdaspeed/AEM is worth the reasonable price.

5hp at the crank would bearly make a noticeable difference at the wheels. I cant really justify taking my car to the dyno for such a small increase which could be influenced by the conditions on the day, ie if its hot, cold raining etc. I wont deny that that cooler intake air = more power but as its been discussed on numerous occasions, the stock system is pretty well designed.
