borla exhaust and K&N intake NOW

just called thousand oaks mazda they said both can be ordered now. 70 for intake and around 600 for borla exhaust. They said this wont affect warranty either. They said they have a rx8 with borla exhaust on it already on the lot.

Does this sound right

Only if they can provide copies of dynojet runs to show any change in HP or torque. Otherwise it's just lots of sound and fury...

Do they sell those online? If they do, what is the website?

I have a Borla Exhaust on my PGT and it sounds VERY good. Its got a muscular growl at low RPM and then gets more like a higher pitched F1 engine up top

For the WRX at least the Borla is one of the louder exhausts, also I'm guessing it's simply and axelback or catback so no noticable HP gains. Keep in mind some cars don't react well to intakes, and it will sometimes lower HP, the WRX is that way because it will cause the car to run rich. Since some expect the RX-8 is running rich already I would hold off for some dyno results before getting any type of intake on your cars.

what's wrong with the original exhaust? how much is the borla, how much more will it give you, and do you think the added HP is worth the added "growl" when the car runs very quietly for the power it produces?

just curious...

for one thing, it's huge and heavy if not also overly restrictive (y'know how quiet it is?? that's 'cause it absorbs a whole lotta energy out of the exhaust gasses... not conducive to highest performance).

I have a GReddy catback on my Probe GT 94 - I liked the sound and performance of it alot. I would however be very cautious about anything yet for the RX-8 A free flowing intake and exhaust may make more HP on the top end at the expense of torque.

The Probe (and maybe our RX8 also) have the variable intake runner - Longer more restrictive intake for low rpm torque, and shorter route for high rpm HP.

If anything - I would love a mod that gave extra torque, even at the expense of some HP if needed.

A chip on the other hand for the RX8 to recover the detuning I would jump as asap.

actually on my Probe the Borla produced more Hp AND more torque.

They used the correct size piping rather then some companies just throwing on a 3" or 3.5" for bragging rights which usually lowers torque because its too large. Borla always seems to do their homework before releasing something.

I just replaced the exhaust on my Mazda MX5 (Miata) with a Borla. The Borla is slightly wider, lighter and has better flow than the stock exhaust. It's also louder, but not so loud you can't hear the stereo. Combined with a Cold Air Intake it's definately given a good boost to performance, although the CAI contributed most to the performance gain. Only problem I've been told with Boral, is they don't use resonators (although not sure about the RX8 one), so you might get a bit of resonance when cruising at certain RPM.

FACTS gentlemen, FACTS can i buy this thing NOW if i wanted to? if the answer is no, then THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE lets get it straight. enought of the "i saw" , "i heard/read" bs .. my 2 cents..

Me too exhaust first... since most people develop muffler first inc. Japan models. We will see more results before a clear favourite to be made.

Dynoing is problem for some people so it is difficult to interpret and compare. Go for big companies like HKS, Amuse, Blitz or my fav RE Amemiya (this is my top choice at present)

There is no point in trying to take more air in if you can't get it out any faster. Do the exhaust first.
