Interceptor-X (Installed) first impressions
Hey there guys... My impression so far is that the car has never moved this fast in its life. Overall responsiveness is amazing and when the throttle is floored it just takes off!!
I have never felt so much pull before in all of the gears. That is definitely worth the investment right there. Every gear... 1st... Shift... 2nd... Shift 3rd... I could only dream of pulling such speeds so quickly before. Out on the track this car is going to be so much fun to drive. My words regarding the acceleration difference really does not even begin to justify how much different this car is now from before. It's just something that you have to feel for yourself. Second gear now is completely different than before. I am feeling G's that I have never felt experienced on WOT acceleration. This is now a much different car than before.
Fourth gear to me is especially nice. Out on the track before in fourth gear was very uneventful. It seemed as if you were just waiting to shift into fifth as the rpm's rose and you didn’t feel a thing. The car just didn’t seem to be alive as speed increased yet you eventually made it up to high rpm's to shift into fifth. The difference now is that the car just continues to pull throughout every rpm range just as if you were in the sweet spot of the power from 4,000 to 8,500. There doesn’t seem to be any real discernable deadness in power as the rpm's begin to reach the upper rpm band. The power is seamless and smooth all the way up to redline. The graph will definitely confirm this as afr's were steady between mid/high 13's and low 14's.
In the past weeks I have installed a lot of performance products on my car, but the one purchase that I am very happy about making is the investment in a wideband afr gauge. You will really be lost if you don’t have one. If the car has any hesitation/stumble at all, it will immediately be reflected in the gauge and this will allow you to make the necessary adjustments quickly and accurately. Without the gauge I think I would be lost and frustrated with the whole process not knowing exactly what my car was doing.
I am very glad that I purchased the Int-x. Scott did an amazing job with WOT runs and spending time with us just this past Sunday ironing the streetabiliy issues. The only trouble that I am experiencing now is under 60% throttle the afr's are shooting up. I am in the process of reading the manual and will spend some time tuning the car and will post up my results here in a few days.
If you’re looking to make a purchase that will further the performance of your car, the Int-x is a great way to go for both NA and FI type applications. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is interested in more performance. At first I was skeptical about purchasing this product because we only had swoope's impressions and it didn’t seem like that many of us were purchasing this product to use in a NA type environment. Any hesitation that you have about purchasing this product from a NA perspective should not be made without first realizing the true potential of this product. I am very happy about my purchase and would suggest to anyone with a NA setup that this be your next purchase. I took the plunge and will never look back.
Dyno graphs should be coming soon too. Scott is on his way back to Florida now and as soon as he organizes all of the dyno data files and sends them to us we will be able to post any type of comparison that is needed. Hopefully I’ll receive them soon.
I should also mention the current list of my mods..
Flywheel, RP Supercat, TurboXS exhaust, Racing Beat Revi/Air Duct

As a side effect, I would also like to hear about your fuel mileage once you get more tuning in and go through a couple of tanks. Where are you feeling the most difference? In the mid range? I look forward to seeing the before and after dynos.

If you wanted to see how much all of the performance parts cost, you could simply just add up everything that I told you.
Regarding the Int-x purchase, install and tuning all of this can be done for under 2,000 dollars. The installation of the product can be done in less than 30 minutes and is pretty straight forward. While at the meet this past weekend one of the attendees and I did it fairly quickly. He had already installed it himself and was helping me out with the install. The instructions provided with the kit walk you through step by step and are very easy to follow.

I suspect that fuel mileage is going to increase a lot!!! My afr's cruising vary from high 14's to mid 15's. It's very difficult to drive this car conservatively when you have much more power available to use at a moments notice. I am fighting the urge every second to get into throttle and open her up.

The good news is that while Scott was out here the streetability testing that we did actually was improved upon and he took back an upgraded base map that may even be shipped out with the upcoming NA units. You would then benefit from the time that he spent with us tuning the cars. It's obviously up to Scott though if he feels that this map is significantly better than the one that shipped with the unit.

Dave gratz My mods are very smilar to yours. Im waiting for deliver with turboxs exhaust,
ACT prolite flywheel, Unorthodox Pulley, revi + duct and I paid almost 2k without shipping. I want Supercat, but Im afraid my ears will blow up I was also sceptical, for the Interceptor ,but what You said, it seems to be worth. So my next order is gonna be RP supercat, or Interceptor thx to You;]. MAXIMAL N/A !!

I can concur with his review, my car is a little rough around the edges still since I haven't dyno tuned it and my base map was Dave's test map, but the over all feel was the same.
right now I have the unit off as I'm getting the car inspected next week, but then its going right back in and I'll start the tuning process again.

F.y.i.
Charles, If you did go the Interceptor-X route you could use the built in aux input on front of the unit to retard you leading and trailing timing and add additional fuel for safety. They are both user definable fields so as you increase the power levels you could compensate accordingly.Scott

The RX-8 code for MS is in limbo right now. Ken has been working on MSII as it doesn't currently support any rotary trailing ignition. He is going to put the RX-8 code into that update. When I'm not sure.

Dave ,
would it be possible to do some in gear acceleration tests for us all . This would really give us some idea of the improvements you have made & is less reliant on standing start technique etc.
Wheels mag in ausssie got the following for a stock RX8
50-75 MPH (80-120kph)
3rd : 4.6 s
4th : 7.2s
5th : 9.0s
6th : 11.1s
Just for interest the turbo RX8 they tested in the article got 3.0,4.0,5.0,6.4

Pre mod dyno number (Borla exhaust, flywheel):
175 whp
Post mod dyno number (TurboXS exhaust, RP Supercat, RB Intake/Air Duct, flywheel):
185 whp - GT Motorsports
190 whp - Jackson Racing
Post mod dyno number + Int-X tune: not sure yet.. Need the data from Scott.... (not worse than 185 whp )....

I really do think that there is even more left in the car from the baseline run that I am about to show you. The graph that I posted above was tuned based upon the feedback given from my gauge/odb scan tool since the so. cali meet. The graph that I am about to show you now was produced by tuning from another source. As you can see it's too rich in places and my whp numbers will still be better than pre Int-X.
I'll dyno my car again with the tuning that I have done and post that sometime in the future....
This afr graph here will reflect the whp numbers that everyone is anticipating.
