I'm going to defend mazsport on this one. Keep in mind he's probably working on sending out all the units that are already late, upgrading greddy turbos, and run a shop hmm posting should be his last priority when you have 15 eager customers waiting for a return in their $1700 investment.
Best way to get updates is be proactive about it and call them, I'm sure he be happy to answer your questions it worked for a lot the guys that bought his units they called he answered and someone else posted update. I really don't see y you can't do the same.

scott gave me a call today after I left a message earlier this afternoon...he said the turbo units should be shipping by early next week at the latest, and then he's going to concentrate fully on the NA map. he seemed optimistic about gains, but understandably we didn't talk about actual numbers, since he's not finished with the process. he road tunes these maps for part throttle acceleration and cruise so it takes time...traffic is no cakewalk in pinellas county, i know that!

You mean if epitrochoid has anything new to say.. Why would you expect the makers of the product to comment? Come on now!!

I think they'll soon have serious competition from Vishnu's XEDE, at least for the FI 8s.

Help! Newbie has ?- What is an N/A & FI?

New to this whole rotary rx8 thing and after reading a few threads, would like to know what kind of 2004 rx8 I have? ...Is it N/A or FI? ...How will I know? You guys are probably laughing but I'm truly ignorant about this matter. I appreciate your input. Thanks.

He's just busy running the shop and filling orders. He hasn't gotten anywhere yet when it comes to the n/a's.

I was going to post this is the "Buyers List Thread", but thought I would put it in the right place :o

I agree it takes time for a new product, and I had high hopes for the CZ unit as well, but it left me disappointed? Now maybe it was just because my car was one of the fussy ones, but by the sounds of it this unit is more advanced to deal with our cars? Now the next question is tuning....now I know if they do put out a unit for NA cars they will do their homework, but once we get it I am guessing it will require more fine tuning? But I was wondering, if this unit fools the car into thinking everything is ok, it should work right out of the box (wishfull thinking :p )

My CZ unit always seemed to work fine for a few days on every map we tried, then my car would adjust and things would go haywire after that.

I guess another question would be do I need to put on a highflow cat to withstand higher exh. temps created by this unit (am I off base here)?.....or can I leave the car completely stock?

I know a lot of questions, but I guess I am very curious what this unit can do for our NA cars!!!

this unit doesnt try to fool anything as it takes complete control of fueling and timing. the stock pcm cannot adjust anything as it has NO control.

It does lie to the stock ECU actually. It has to. It has to tell it something or it will throw codes like crazy. However, after a while, the stock ECU will throw codes anyway because it will eventually realize that the AFR is not where it wants it to be and will say throw a code for AFR too rich. All this means is the CEL will come on. The ECU can't do a damn thing about it. It can't detune it or anything and it cant change the AFR so it just spits the code.

If the stock ECU doesn't get anything back, it'd spit codes like crazy.

Now, Scott told me that the interceptor has a way to handle codes and turn them off. He doesn't want to turn the codes completely off though as there are some things you may want the engine computer to continue to throw codes about. The interceptor knows when the ECU throws a code so there's no reason it cant check to see if the code is actually valid; IE when the ECU throws an AFR code, check the AFR and if it's in spec, turn off the CEL.

EDIT: Now that i think about it, it doesnt have to lie.. it can tell the truth as long as the ECU knows SOMETHING. If the ECU doesnt get its updates though, it will cough up codes like mad.

Nope. You can completely disconnect the fuel injectors and the ignition system from the factory ecu and control it with a standalone and the stock ecu has no clue. There is no fooling involved. As long as the a/f ratios are within a certain amount, the stock ecu won't care. You don't have to fool the stock ecu. It's not nearly as complicated as many think it is.

there have been too many disccusions on rx8 ecus. since i am new to rotary world( rx8 is my first), i don't know how people tuned the rx7's ecu. So was there a big mess for the rx7s like what we have now for the RX8's ecu.
just kind of wondering.

The RX-7 ECU was a far simpler beast to tame, and it wasn't responsible for all the stuff the RX-8 ECU handles. AEM and Apex'i among others had stand-alone ECUs that were basically plug n play (plus tuning). Other than that, PFS has a piggy-back unit and Pettit Racing and others reprogrammed the stock ECU....of course, all of this took time to develop, so maybe we'll see similar stuff with the 8 (actually, we already are). The only thing is...with a stand-alone, it has to do a LOT more if you don't want to lose functionality.

think about, the 8 ecu is more technologically advance than the 7's is, but at the same time we have better technology for standalone managment aswell.
