Just installed one last night. Sound is great/loud. Power gains...your not going to get much from any company you go with. Go to some meets and listen to the intakes that people have, and get input from them there. This is the only true way to make the best decision for your application.
I heard the K/N, HKS and Racing Beat before choosing Racing Beat for myself. The K/N I installed last night was in my girlfriend's 8. She liked the sound the K/N produced....she also went with the HKS exhaust, which is also louder than my taste. The K/N goes well with the HKS, they match pretty much for decible and tone.
Good luck with your choice.

I mean this has been debated over and over again.... Seriously go to the search button and type in "K&N Typhoon Intake" its going to give you a lot of threads, and there will be one that says "K&N vs REVI vs AEM"... But overall people on this forum will tell you that K&N kind of let people down the first time around with the 1st generation, so thats kind of why people will try to steer you away from them, but just like (Kwescott) said better to actually hear and see the intakes at a meet.... Personally I'm a huge fan of the AEM and RacingBeat REVi w/ duct.....overall I've heard positive and negative things about every intake, so it all comes down to what you want....

Dont get the first one, is it even possbile to find one tho ?
but just get the Second Gen (short ram, Cone shape type) and be happy.
I had the 1st and 2nd gen of the K&N intake. so I know how does it perform
first one really suck ***, its loud but you dont get anything from it, rough idle due to the lack of mesh *fixed in 2nd gen* , sometimes your car might just *DIE* out of nowhere when you're driving 50 mph !
2nd Gen fixed all the above issues(more ,but too lazy to list it all out) and you actually can get some gain, you floor it, it screams, if you take it easy, not much louder than stock airbox.
Oh well. Your money, your choice.

Power gains are little to none, in all intakes...I would thinkl that most people do it for the sound, or the hypothesized fuel efficiency gains. This is why I suggest that you go to a meet and hear them first. Cause, if you're buyuing for sound, you may as well hear them first......right?
