Question Just installed my AEM CAI, got a question

Just got done putting it in and back together, went for a drive.

At this one spot in the throttle it makes a weird noise, hard to explain kind of like a tssssssss sound. Is this normal? Above or below this throttle point it doesn't make the sound, so I figured it's some kind of resonance from the intake.

Just wondering if this is normal for others with the AEM CAI, it's kind of annoying but oh well I can live with it.

did you double check you're work when you finished? I'm not sure because some CAI for some intakes do make a "tss" sound idk if it does that for our cars

there is a different sound if you mash the gas at idle. it sounds like its just resonance if that's the sound you're hearing.

if not, did you plug up the hole for the VFAD on the intake runner?

I'm not talking about mashing it at idle. I'm talking like driving around at approximately 1/4 throttle. Right at this point it makes the tssssss sound, above/below that throttle it doesn't.

Yes I plugged the nipple. It does not exhibit any signs of a vac leak, idle is rock solid, etc. That's why I was wondering if it's just normal.

yea, i have the aem and it makes a weird hissing noise, sounds kinda like a minature turbo. i dont' know if it's normal or not, but i've had my intake for a couple of months now, and it's still working perfectly fine, so i don't think it's a big problem

Yah I just wanted to make sure other owners were getting a similar sound. I didn't know if it was the intake or something else unrelated that happened during taking stuff out and putting the new intake in.

VFAD isn't used with the AEM intake.

no...all cars with an intake system make that "tssss" / whistling noise. it'll only happen at a certain position of the throttle. you're just hearing the vacuum noise created by the throttle/engine. the aftermarket intake doesn't have a resonator like the stock air box, therefore, the sound is heard.

Never heard a sound like this on any intake I've had in the past. Not on my old SUV with CAI, not on my 2nd gen rx7 with custom built CAI.

That's why I posted... I'm not stupid, if this was a normal sound I had experienced before I wouldn't have posted...

it's ok to ask questions man...you sound like you know what you're talking about. just remember to take everything you read on this forum with a grain of salt. 90% of the problems people have had with their 8 hasn't happened to me. the forum can make you 2nd guess a lot of times. that's because the only people who have problems speak up...there's no need to speak when there's nothing wrong.

if you do a search on all the posts i have done...you won't find a single problem.

I got it with my stock box, and when my K&N is in, its just louder now.

The throttle body opens a little butterfly valve when air is sucked in, and at a certain point, like just when you start giving it gas, it makes a little turbo whistle noise.
Im pretty sure this is due to the air "whistling" through the small space that is open due to your only at a little bit of throttle, just like whistling through your teeth.

I have a stock intake and have noticed the same noise from day one. Took it to the dealer to verify that it was normal.
