So if i'm gonna get the high-flow cat it would be better not to get the exhaust?

I love my RB exhaust. It has changed the way I drive. Holding lower gears longer, powering thru corners more, and muting the stereo when I come upon a particularly good stretch of road. (like in the WRX comercial) It does turn kind of a golden crome color at the tips between cleanings. Makes a fuller, richer, deeper sound. Not overly loud, I can still cruise by cops and sound stock by upshifting. I met a guy with a Borla and this sounds better IMO. Sounds better than my friends G35 coupe, when you step on it. It really does give the car a more sporty personality both visually, and aurally.

Anyone here compare the RB sound to a JIC exhaust? I just got the JIC installed yesterday and the sound isn't loud enough for my taste, but then again I'm driving the car and usually you can't hear the true sound from the driver side seat. To make it louder, I just picked up a K&N intake that I am going to get installed tomorrow.

Do you think I should break in the exhaust before installing the intake so I can get the true sound of the JIC?

My wife tells me it's too damn loud already with the JIC compared to stock exhaust, but I wouldn't mind it being a little louder...especially since my next door neighbor has a loud Harley Fatboy....I wish I could get that Harley sound on my RX8.

Someone posted a review on the K&N intake and said "my car now sounds like a Ricer with the intake instead of having just the exhaust alone"

This is scaaring me. I don't like/want the ricey sound, but want a deeper sound...kinda like my old NSX with the Taitec exhaust...that was a mean sound...Ferrari like...gave me a woody everytime I floored it.

Hop onto Mazdatrix (www.mazdatrix.com) and go to the exhaust section. They have sound bites of each of the exhausts.

Ok, I just played the clip for the RB exhaust four times in a row!

That is literally the perfect sound for this car in my opinion. I wonder how much of the sound was due to the intake they were using as well?

WOW WOW

Super WOW!

I just installed mine. It's super quite on the crusing speed. Under a little acceleration you can hear it. HAs a feint low Grumbling sound.

OOPs! Under hard acceleration you can hear a Motorhead car.

Glad I did not get anything else that is louder and obnoxious.

Took it to a mechanic that works on classic and old Motorhead cars.

He said it's about the best installtion job he has ever seen.

Grerat work Racing Beat.

Thumbs up RB install

Mine is on, and it sounds awesome. Removal of the old one is a major pain. I finally cut the hangers with a sawsall. No need to save the old one. New one went on very easy. All you need is some metric socket wrenches, and a torque wrench.

I admit... I fell victim to the mod bug for a second time in my life... after much fighting w/ myself about it, I ordered my RB Catback earlier this morning. It'll take a week, supposedly. I'll let you guys know how it goes from there...

I'll probably get the MS body kit first, but no doubt that the RB exhaust will be next in line in terms of my upgrades!

I don't remember the exact size of socket wrenches you need, but the instructions that will come with the exhaust system will tell you...I did not have to saw the hangars off...plenty of WD-40 and a big flat head screw driver did the trick for me...the first one was a pain in the ***, but once I figured out the trick the rest were easy...

Ok, my RB is already in-state, but I'll prolly get it tomorrow (the 24th) late afternoon, hopefully giving me enough time to speak w/ my mechanic about installing it early Saturday, if at all possible. I can't wait! :D

I think this is the perfect "adult" exhaust

Don't mean to offend any of the "youngins" but if you want a high pitched bumble-bee or overly loud note through the RPM's then this exhaust is not for you.

I just finished about 10 miles on the newly installed RB exhaust and here are some impressions....

At idle, it is just slightly noticeable with a pleasant little "rumble" that lets you know that the exhaust is there....

On acceleration it sounds just, well, great! The thing I like most is that it doesn't drown out the sound of the engine. You hear a powerful exhaust note, but you still hear the rotary "song" as the engine winds up.

Bringing it up redline sounds SIGNIFICANTLY better than stock. Obviously, it gets louder up here, but not overbearing. Just plain sweet as it maintains the lower pitch compared to stock.

I cruised around at what my normal highway RPM usually is (3700-4200) and once again, it was not intrusive at all...just a nice sound.

I must say that I am very impressed and although it is more of a "cosmetic" mod I think it is well worth the money. The car may have only gained a few HP, but it sounds as if it gained 20 and in a refined way.
