Just a little more power...

I'm sure these questions have been asked before...but I really really would like some help on this specific problem of mine. I got a ti-grey rx8, and absolutely love it, but when I did a few straight line runs with my friend (obviously the RX8 is meant more for cornering) I only kept pace, and I'd really like just that little bit more power.

All in all, what I really want to do is get new wheels *for look* that are possibly a bit lighter than the stock 18's (anyone know the weight of those?), a good air intake (any recommended? I keep hearing K&N Typhoon), exhaust (dead set on HKS-Hi Power single exit, it sounds amazing) and a Cobb AP (how would I get maps for all of those new add ons?). What I was wondering was, once tuned, what kind of difference exactly would I be getting? A decently noticeable one?

Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry in advance for my questions being most likely extremely obvious to the more experienced.

RB catalytic converter/midpipe, Mazda Maniac AP, You can pm him, Nice exhaust, I have it with the Racing Beat midpipe and it's loud but probably a few HP gain lol, K&N intake if you must. Not much you can do without swap or turbo/supercharger. I guess you can tune it stock lol. Go read some other threads, they have way more info.

-AEM intake is pretty good, as is the Racing Beat REVi intake. Or you can just gut the stock intake box, remove a screen, and install a drop-in K&N filter, it's much cheaper and pretty effective. Absolutely STAY AWAY from the K&N Typhoon, it sucks hot air and is not a very good intake.

-HKS Hi-Power IS awesome! I have it and it makes the car sound like a proper rotary.

-Get a catless/resonated midpipe. Frees up good power and weights less.

-Although the HKS does sound awesome, I also think the TurboXS is pretty nice, it comes with a catless midpipe, doesn't cost much, and actually makes some good power. You will need to get new tips welded on the exhaust, however, or it will melt your exhaust shrouds.

-Cobb AccessPORT is absolutely worth it. Buy in from Mazdamaniac and you get free custom tunes.

Most other NA parts won't net you much power. You could do the BHR ignition coil kit, fresh set of spark plugs (BHR sells these as well for a good price when buy the ignition kit), and a lightweight flywheel will also add some "pep".

Clutch/flywheel and short throw shifter since they haven't been mentioned.
Talk to Charles R. Hill about his BHR clutch kit with the 8.98lbs flywheel.

a lighter car is a faster car.

don't get the k&n i'd say either racing beat or Mazdaspeed/aem cold air.
i love the hks hi power (thats what i currently have) adding a midpipe too will free up some extra ponies

and if you go cobb buy it from mazdamaniac that way you can get some custom tunes.

intake
exhaust
Cobbs ap

end result, loud car with maybe 15-20hp max due to a great tune from MM

so far I have done the BHR Ignition upgrade, and a K&N drop in filter. the ignition did it, I don't work for BHR but the stock coils power diminish over time, when I did the BHR kit, and new plugs, the car started Pulling

Chickenwafer and I have pretty much the same ideas with this car... HKS Hi-Power is a fantastic exhaust although very loud it sounds deep and throaty with no raspiness. AccessPORT is crucial for tweaking the car even naturally aspirated, and the biggest difference I noticed NA was the BHR ignition upgrade. A midpipe, AEM intake, AccessPORT and BHR ignition will give you a little bump in power.

^you do know it's because of the turbo you have no rasp right?
a straight pipe with HKS or any exhaust for that matter will be raspy
the turbo acts as a muffler really

It's definitely true that the turbo muffles it but I've heard the HKS Hi-Power with NA RX-8s and it still sounds good, although loud. Depending on the type of midpipe that can/will sound pretty raspy without a turbo, but the exhaust itself is pretty throaty even with NA cars.

what they all said. But if you want to not spend 330$ on an intake... you should remove the screens get a drop in K&N filter and get the RB air duct. All that is like 200$. literally.

Going in this Order:

Midpipe
BHR Upgrade
Accessport
light *** rims
Flywheel
Header
Catback
Intake
Nitrous
Pulleys
Ported TB
and get lighter brakes.

LAST: If you want to spend a crap load of money on a really useless thing. Get LIGHTENED ROTORS for a whopping $2k.

That's all the mods that you can do for this car that will make it faster other than going FI.
All that will probably give you like 220whp.

I would hope all that and NOS would get you better then 220whp

before the 2k rotors, get a port job done

remove weight, practice(driver mod), some good tires to help off the line, but in my opinion it is not worth spending thousands of dollars for like 20hp at best, maybe nitrous 55 shot if you have a tight budget, otherwise supercharger, turbo, or swap.

But you are missing the point here, the RX8 isnt meant to be fast in a straight line or a highway monster, get some practice and ask your friend to try and follw you on some curvy roads, then after that decide if you really need the extra power

The most noticable upgrades I had when I was NA were the AccessPORT, BHR ignition upgrade, and wider lighter wheels with nice sticky tires. That's really all the car needs naturally aspirated.

Dont forget a Midpipe

Well I meant if you didn;t use NOS you would get 220whp. If you would use a 55 shot you'd probably get around 250-260whp.
