Jason, i will be considering an exhaust later, but here in cali the law states that no ehaust can be replaced to modify noise. i know a lot of people say "well a cat back is legal" when in fact it is not unless it has a C.A.R.B. number. so for now i would like to stay away from cop magnets. (although my car is yellow) and i did say for now.
but thatnks for the sound bit. sounds great!

yes i did, i see that he also added a duct to the opening, like i said, its awsome, i might even consider going with that. its very very clean. but it does leave the engine bay "full" i wouldent mind getting the engine bay cleaned up to see a little bit more of the engine, (remove top cover also) i dont know, i have not made up my mind yet. i kinda like the fact that its almost stock, with a "tuner" flare
we will see. goo thing about me, is that i am patiant. ill way my options.
oh yeah, one thing i dont like about it it i wanted to try to stick to things that are (reversable) if i want them to be. and although most of it is, the cutting the top cover is not revesable unless i get another top cover.
anyways, thanks for showing that to me, that is really neat!

exhaust is on my list, and at $550 and a name like Borla, i will seriously consider it.
was it a kit, or a custom job?

I also have the Typhoon with the CF end caps and the heat shield. I just have to reiterate, that I too have experienced no problems at all. My idle has never fluctuated and I definately have more on the top end. HOWEVER...it is loud. Especially in 4th at WOT.

Interesting thread. Any comments on the MS drop-in filter?
My car will soon go in for a 20,000km service, so the stock filter will be replaced. I bought the MS, which is quite cheap, and I will be placing it in the airbox, instead of buying another stock filter
It looks pretty much the same though as stock. Isn't it supposed to allow more air in? More free-flowing?
...will I get my 1-2hp:p lol. sorry if I'm hijacking the thread.

thanks for your comments, so far both of the "no problem" K&N guys have the heat shield. could this be the problem? (not having it)

I may have found a combo that works well, thanks to the DIY thread. I decided to try the Blitz SUS filter along with the Rotary Extreme box that I already bought last year and they seem to work well together. The Blitz doesn't produce the annoying rumble that the K+N seems to and it looks a bit better. It also won't get the MAF oily or dirty. The only down side is that I had to fab my own reducer/filter fitting because Blitz doesn't make a 4 1/2-3 1/2 inch reducer. The screen on the Blitz doesn't look like it will filter worse than any other one and I know several guys who are happy with theirs. So far, so good.

I have had NO PROBLEMS at all with this thing. My car has no idle problems and actually is a little faster at the track with the intake on. I have lost no low end power and at high revvs it seems to really get some extra juice.
I need to mention here that I also have a Borla cat back system. I don't understand why there are so many people that take this system off. It is awesome. At highway speeds it is almost not noticeable until you downshift next to an innocent bystander driving with their windows down and it scares the crap out of them because it's so freaking loud. At high revvs (over 5,500 rpm) it started to really snarl at you. On the low side you can definitely hear a change in pitch at 3,750 rpm when the intake ports open up and again at 5,200 rpm.
Again I have had 0 problems to date. I drove from Kansas City to the West Leg of the Super Street tour in Jackson Mississippi over to NOPI Nationals in Atlanta in the summer heat with no issues in drivability what so ever.

I've had the typhoon with the heat shield since last august, and have recently noticed the idle fluctuating a bit every once in a while, but it's pretty mild. Also, I dynamatted the heat shield to get rid of some rattling (and since the heavy duty dynamat had an aluminum foil backing, it may keep the area around the filter a couple degrees cooler, although with the ratio of convection heat to radiation heat in the engine bay that's probably a minimal effect). The only cooldown issues I've noticed come if I get stuck in stop-and-go traffic for 10 minutes or so with the A/C on on a warm (80F +) day before shutting off.
I've been thinking of trying to open up the bottom tray that's under the stock aribox, to ffed the intake with air from in front of the radiator, but haven't gotten around to working it out yet.
While I'm satisfied with the performance of the intake, I wouldn't reccomend it if you're looking for "throaty". My first cruise with the intake in and the windows down, I was constantly looking for the bike that was making the noise which turned out to be coming from my engine). While it does hace a really mean snarl and howls like a demon at 7k/WOT, there's not really anything about the note that it makes that I'd call throaty.
