I Installed My K&n A Couple Of Days Ago , The Power Increase Is Not That Much But I Can Feel It , I Couldnt Remove The Screen From The Factory Intake But Everything Is Working Fine .

I was thinking of the same thing, I have those thing that seals that they use to seal heat pipes/AC lines, brought a whole roll for 15 bux at home depot, works pretty well to seal the AC line, dont have time to seal the ram air duct gap yet ... trying to make some time to do the install next week.

Put that screen back on, unless you want your car to stall in the middle of *highway* speed.

You dont have to believe me, keep it off, and one day you will *experience* it yourself.

it does more than smoothing out the airflow to MAF.

I dunno the complete science behind it, but keep it off if you want to experience the *highway speed engine stalling*.

ITs fun, trust me.

Read my other replies.

Again, if you want to try the *stall on highway speed* feeling, leave it off.

I took my tube off completely and put a rubber vacuum cap on. 2-3 weeks ago.

Now no more worries about leaking.

Was the leaking what caused the stall at highway speeds?

I pulled one of my screens and then both but found that it idled much smoother with the screens.

I just received the filter for the K&N intake and was surprised at the 5.5" connection.

I'd like to know more about the stalls at highway speed that nycgps mentioned a dozen times?

I hadn't heard of that being caused by removing intake screens. I was under the impression it was caused by losing compression due to not getting enough oil to the seals or a clogged cat.

Like I said, I dunno about the sciencefic stuff behind it.

but I tried it a couple of times, if I take the screeen off, the engine will stall, it happens more often when the temp is hot.

screen back on, no problems whatsoever.

Maybe u should ask K&N about it, cuz Version 1 has no screen, Version 2 will ask you to take the stock intake screen and put it on.

i should get a screen just to be on the safe side but, i haven't had it on my typhoon2 since i first installed it and i have had no problems other than slightly worse idling. if i could get my hands on one i'll install it... mazda doesn't sell them seperately outside of the whole airbox. so, i may end up fabricating one. anyone have any good sources for stell mesh. a couple of google searches haven't turned up anything similar to the quality of the intake mesh...

Did anyone with a 06+ rx8 find the throttle body clamp provided with the kit to be to small?
I dont know if they added a small one to the kit by mistake or if the throttle body is bigger on my car for some reason. I had to use the clamp from the stock tube.

ummmm
i believe the only clamp provided is not for the tb but for the vacuum hose that leads to the oil reservoir...

Mine came with the massive clamp for the fliter, and 2 clamps to connect the rubber between the intake pipe and the throttle body. I had to stretch the rubber pretty good(some times normal) to get it over the throttle body, and the clamp was just to short(maybe 10 teeth) to even connect.

Have thought about fabricating some sort of enclosure for the filter element though. The k&n makes so much noise/vibration, that it has caused an intermittent rattle behind my instrument cluster at high rpm (this might be the TSB for the plastic cowl cover that can rattle or squeak but haven't had in the shop to check yet, ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS WITH THE K&N??)

I just installed the K&N Typhoon in my '06 and I have this same issue...the rattle in my center dash is extremely LOUD and annoying...any fix for this yet?

Yes, the clamp was too small...after trying to get it to work for about 1/2 hour, I decided to use the stock clamp...the one that's black....it's a little too big but works if you tighten it almost all the way...I need to special order a larger clamp cause NAPA and Autozone don't stock anything that big...they told me to buy two small ones and combine them but that seems even ghetto-er than using the stock black clamp...what was your solution?

I know what your talking about. The far back clamp didn't fit so I took the stock clamp and put it on tightened it down wit ha screw driver and get a socket and tightened it down ever further. I think its tighter that way anyways. This intake is great, I haven't noticed any power gain but then again I bought it to put a mod on my car and the sound. Have a short shifter and now this, I kinda feel a bit more comfortable with working on my engine now after months of pouring over the engine schematics and data. Next mod is the Greddy exhaust
