K&N typhoon V2 Cause power loss?
OK so i bought a K&N typhoon intake last year it worked fine for a while. then earlier this summer my car started running like crap after it got hot outside so i would clean the air filter maby that was the issue. After driving it around a few miles it started doing it again and the engine would bog down big time. So i took that off and put the stock airbox back on and the car runs great now with no issues and even goes faster. Is this something common with a short ram intake? think its time to sell it anyways and do something different that thing is a pile of crap.

The problem with the short ram is it sucks in the hot air generated by the motor. The simple physics of it is hot air is less dense which means it doesn't produce as much power.
The other problem is the RX8 pcm is programmed to limit the maximum load the car can obtain when the intake temperatures exceed a certain point. This also reduces performance.
The intake also seriously screws with the fuel trims which means if you reset the PCM it will take some time before it runs/idles correctly.
You are much better off using the stock intake. It's more than capable of flowing all the air the engine needs.

If i were to go with an AEM cold air intake would i still be stuck with the same problem? i do like a little bit of noise comming from the car when im on the gas just sounds good.

No the AEM wouldn't give you the same issues and would work just fine. Although I find $300 to be a lot of money for noise.

To the OG poster,
This is common as Flashwing stated. I had to buy a stock box to swap in the summer but have been way to f*$#ing lazi to do so >_< How ever the Racing Beat ram air duct works to combat this issue.

Even my Racing Beat duct mated to my stock intake with K&N flat filter sees a rise of ~6 degf from ambient outdoor to manifold (ambient outdoor air sensor and Cobb AP indicated manifold intake temp). So a short ram like the K&N Typhoon, being totally within the engine bay, is much worse in this regard. Case in point for CAI.
edit: yes, I know the Typhoon is somewhat compartmentalized with its custom mounting panels, but still ....

No, i used to have the AEM on my car. It actually brings in air from the outside into the engine. I felt my car ran the best in the winter time cause it was so cold out and it would draw in all that cold air in. Whereas the K&N is just filtering warm/hot engine bay air in.

Im gonna get rid of that intake because the car has ran great ever since i switched back to the stock airbox probably just get a drop in so i dont have to keep buying airfilters.
